Twin B Stanley wins Grassroots division!

Woodbine Mohawk Park played host to a pair of $20,000 divisions of the first leg of the Millard Farms Series for two-year-old trotters on Monday (July 21). In addition to the Millard Farms series, two-year-old pacing colts stepped into the spotlight with a trio of $25,000 Grassroots divisions.

Twin B Stanley kicked the second leg off with a 5-1 mild upset when he broke his maiden in his third start by going first-up narrowly scoring in 1:53.4. The Kyle Fellows trained son of Cattlewash-Telltale Hanover was driven by James Macdonald for owners Yolanda Fellows, Blair Corbeil, Arpad Szabo and Mike McAllister.

Twin B Tuffenuff Chases Governor's Plate Repeat

The defending champion is back for more, but Twin B Tuffenuff will need to be at his gritty best to repeat in the 2025 Governor’s Plate final, presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge, this Saturday (July 19) at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

The 16-dash Saturday supercard will kick off at 4 p.m. (ADT).

Twin B Tuffenuff won last year’s Governor’s Plate in dazzling off-the-pace fashion and returns for another crack at the crown Saturday night in Race 16 at Red Shores Summerside. The $50,000 showdown lines up eight of the east coast’s toughest free-for-allers in the signature event of the Prince County season.

Gilles Barrieau is back in the bike behind Twin B Tuffenuff for trainer Ron Matheson and owner Pat Morris of Charlottetown, P.E.I. The 10-year-old son of Rock N Roll Heaven took his elimination in 1:53.1 off the front and will gun for a repeat victory from post five — the same post he had in 2024.

But the back-to-back dream won’t come easy.

High Voltage Deo (PP2, 5-2) is the morning line favourite and looms as the main threat for trainer Brendan Curran and owners Alby Curran and High Voltage Deo Group. The Sweet Lou five-year-old is a three-time winner this season including a gelding track record at Truro Raceway in the $7,500 Lindsay Construction Exhibition Cup Final. Corey MacPherson will drive.

Miki Shan N (PP4, 3-1) delivered the most electrifying elimination performance, roaring home in 1:51.4 for driver Marc Campbell, trainer Chris MacKay and owners Kap Singh Racing Stable, Stephen Klunowski, Earl Hill Jr., and Donald MacRae. Jason Hughes will pick up the catch drive in the Governor’s Plate Final.

Marc Campbell drives Roll Em (PP1, 6-1) from the Landon Campbell barn. The 1:51.1 Red Shores Summerside track record holder is owned by Savage Stable, Brent Campbell and Ryan MacLeod.

Bounty Hunter (PP3, 4-1) and veteran trainer-driver Kenny Arsenault were a bang-up second in their Governor’s Plate elimination for owners Kevin Harvey and Connor Keough.

Tony Too Tall (PP6) is at 8-1 odds for driver Myles Heffernan Sr., trainer Trevor Hicken and owner Perry Burke.

The stablemate of Twin B Tuffenuff, Blood Money (PP7, 12-1) will take owner-driver Mitchell Downey for the biggest ride of his career after Barrieau drove him to a fourth-place finish in his elimination.

Middleton Terror (PP8, 10-1) rounds out the field for trainer-driver David Dowling and owners Kingsley Walsh and Frank Balcom.

The Backstretch Beat is going with High Voltage Deo.

“High Voltage Deo has drawn the outside in every big race he can in Atlantic Canada and now gets a prime time spot on his way to become a Governor’s Plate Champion. Was in no-man’s land at the half in his elimination and nearly got completely taken out of the race in the third turn but he persevered. If he can get himself out of that jam, what do you think he can do leaving post two in the biggest race of his trainer’s career? If he can hold his position leaving and avoid any serious trip problems, we see Governor’s Plate glory in his future.”

The 16-dash card also features the $14,000 Ruby Chappell Memorial Open Mares final (Race 15) and $8,500 consolation (Race 12), the $15,000 Bob Dewar Memorial Governor’s Plate consolation (Race 10), the $7,500 Andrew Perry Memorial Trot (Race 8) and divisions of the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacing colts.

Twin B Joe Fresh 'Bang On' Heading Into Barton

Twin B Joe Fresh , the 2024 Dan Patch Horse of the Year, will be making her first appearance in Massachusetts on Sunday, July 20 when she ships to Plainridge Park to start in the $100,000 (G3) Clara Barton Distaff Pace. And new Hall of Famer, trainer Chris Ryder, who co-owns the champion with her driver Dexter Dunn, Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak, couldn't be happier with his mare as she heads to the Commonwealth.

Twin B Joe Fresh is coming in off an eye-popping 1:48.1 romp that featured a :25.3 final quarter in the $194,521 Dorothy Haughton at The Meadowlands last week, and her preparation for this race was summed up simply by her trainer.

“Bang-on! Just the way we like it. No hiccups, and physically she's fine. Right now everything is good. She's a healthy horse and not that difficult at all. It's her fourth year of racing at a high level and not too many horses do that. Once they have a year or two at the top level they seem to peter off. But she's been holding her top-line form terrific. She's ready to go,” said Ryder.

Over the past four years, Twin B Joe Fresh has put up unbelievable numbers on the strength of her unbelievable performances. She has won 33 times in only 44 lifetime starts with eight seconds and a third while earning more than $3 million for her efforts. It takes a special kind of pacer to post stats like that and Ryder said her physical attributes set her apart from the rest.

“I always say good horses do good things, and she's something else. She's very strong and obviously, she's got speed. But she's a bit of an exception when you look at her. Physically, she's exceptionally strong. She's built like a stud horse and as she's gotten older, I think it's helped her carry her speed more. She doesn't look like a filly at all,” said Ryder.

“Her work is fairly light now that she's racing. She obviously jogs everyday, she doesn't swim or anything like that. She's prone to tying up, so she goes in the field every morning before she jogs. And most days we'll just let her pace free-legged and not that fast to keep her loose.”

The field for the Barton is short, but has five other very capable mares competing including last year's Clara Barton winner, Sylvia Hanover, whose rivalry with Twin B Joe Fresh has become long-running and somewhat legendary.

According to the U.S. Trotting Association's Ken Weingartner, the two mares have met 16 times during their careers with Twin B Joe Fresh winning 10 and Sylvia Hanover winning five. The only time one of them didn't win a head-to-head event was when Grace Hill won the Breeders Crown Mare Pace elimination last October.

Despite this fierce competition on the track, Ryder said the rivalry is a friendly one.

“We talk freely in the paddock with the Steacys, they’re nice people, and the time is very friendly and competitive. I'm pleased for them if they beat us and I think it's the same the other way around. Sylvia is a lovely mare and it is a good rivalry the mares have,” said Ryder.

When that rivalry gets renewed this week, Ryder feels Twin B Joe Fresh will benefit from the short field that entered. She's drawn post four in the field of six.

“Oh, it 100 percent helps her. And this was an ideal draw for her too. I think she'll control the race. I don't see how she doesn't control it,” said Ryder.

Ryder has raced at Plainridge Park only one other time in his career in 2013, when he was in a pinch to get a filly trotter qualified for a New York Sire Stake final, and he was very impressed with his experience there.

“The track couldn't have been any better. They were terrific, I couldn't say enough good things about them,” said Ryder.

Twin B Joe Fresh is affectionately known as “Joey” around the barn, because Ryder said they couldn't come up with a better name for her.

“Twinbrook Farm was delighted we didn't change her name. The official breeder was Brittany Farms, but they sold the mare in foal at Harrisburg and Twinbrook bought her. So Twin B Joe Fresh was actually foaled at Twinbrook in Canada,” explained Ryder.

Ryder will not be on hand Sunday to watch his mare race due to another commitment. But Joey will definitely be on hand to try and add to her already gaudy career totals and maybe make some history.

The stake and all-time track pacing record is 1:48.1. It was achieved twice in the Barton by Shartin N and her stablemate Lyons Sentinel, and it appears to be a number that could be rewritten this week.

The $100,000 USD Clara Barton Distaff Pace is carded as race seven with an estimated post time of 4 p.m. Post time for the first race is at 2 p.m.

Twin B Tuffenuff Looks To Defend Governor’s Plate Title

Governor’s Plate Week racing kicks off on Sunday, July 13 at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway and Twin B Tuffenuff will start his journey to defend his Governor’s Plate title in elimination action.

The Sunday card has 12 dashes starting at 1 p.m (ADT) with four pivotal eliminations on Sunday afternoon, including a pair of $9,000 dashes to decide the field for next Saturday’s 57th edition of the $50,000 Governor’s Plate, presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge, along with two $7,000 eliminations for the Ruby Chappell Memorial Open Mares Series.

The first $9,000 Governor’s Plate elimination is carded as the eighth race, with defending champion Twin B Tuffenuff snagging post three for driver Gilles Barrieau, trainer Ron Matheson and owner Pat Morris of Charlottetown.

His rivals for the top four spots to advance to the final are Island Beach Boy (Adam Merner, PP1), Middleton Terror (David Dowling, PP2), Tony Too Tall (Myles Heffernan Sr., PP4), Bee Two Bee (Jason Hughes, PP5), Roll Em (Marc Campbell, PP6), Little Leroy (Ken Murphy, PP7) and Saulsbrook Ian (Corey MacPherson, PP8).

In Race 12, the second elimination to determine the other four finalists, Save America will aim to stay perfect as the Jamie Smith trainee has three straight wins on P.E.I. for driver Murphy and owner Thestable.ca. The son of Captaintreacherous will leave from post two in his elim on Sunday afternoon.

Also in the field are All Bets On Tex (Jason Hughes, PP1), Like A Glove (Marc Whebby, PP3), Bounty Hunter (Kenny Arsenault, PP4), Blood Money (Gilles Barrieau, PP5), Merigo Magic (Adam Merner, PP6), Miki Shan N (Marc Campbell, PP7) and High Voltage Deo (Corey MacPherson, PP8).

The first $7,000 Ruby Chappell Memorial Open Mares elimination heads to the gate in the sixth race with Freaky Fanny the top choice from post five for trainer-driver Darren Crowe over top challengers Sugar Bowl (Barrieau) and Woodmere Kennedie (Marc Campbell).

The second Chappell elimination is in Race 10 with Rosetown Mary (MacPherson) getting respect off the rail over seven rivals including Plain Jane (Barrieau) and Redland Misspretty (Paul Langille).

Governor’s Plate Week continues with live harness racing every evening from Tuesday through Friday at 6 p.m. (ADT) culminating in the Governor’s Plate final card set for 4 p.m., on Saturday, July 19.

Twin B Joe Fresh Flaunts It In Roses Are Red Repeat

Twin B Joe Fresh cruised to command with a mid-race move and easily maintained her throne atop the aged pacing mare division to score her second straight victory in the $287,000 Roses Are Red, a Grade 1 stake, on Saturday, June 14 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Driver Dexter Dunn eased Twin B Joe Fresh from the gate while Sylvia Hanover (bob Mcclure) hustled for the lead to a :26.2 first quarter. Sylvia Hanover pocketed pylon-starter My Girl EJ (Todd McCarthy) to take control moving for the backstretch but soon faced pressure with Aardie B Miki N (Jason Bartlett) angling first up out of third to brush for the front. Dunn followed that brush and soon assumed the lead with Twin B Joe Fresh past a :55.1 half before coasting around the final turn.

My Girl EJ moved to push first over in a sprint to three-quarters, timed in 1:22.1, while Twin B Joe Fresh spun for home and motored away from her peers by the eighth pole. Twin B Joe Fresh crossed the beam geared down in a 1:48.4 mile to win by 3 1/2 lengths. Sylvia Hanover found a seam at the inside to finish second with Aardie B Miki N holding third and Soft Spot (David Miller) rallying from near last for fourth.

“She felt fantastic,” Dexter Dunn said after the race. “It was a good mile by her – she didn’t feel like she was going that fast; she was doing it so easy. She’s just special. She had the plugs in still and was floating along there. Aardie B Miki was breathing down my neck pretty good turning for home and I thought we might have a battle, but this girl can quicken as good as any of them and when she let down she put separation on them. My daughter Mila’s at home on the couch sick, so I hope this makes her feel better."

Now five years old and on the heels of a campaign which earned her divisional honours on both sides of the border and Horse of the Year honours in the U.S., Twin B Joe Fresh (Roll With Joe - Fresh Breeze) stayed undefeated from two starts this season – her last win coming in the $136,986 Betsy Ross Invitational three weeks ago, and with a single 1:50.2 qualifier at The Meadowlands coming into the Roses Are Red final on Saturday night.

“She is what she is… she’s not hard to get ready,” trainer Chris Ryder said after the race. “She’s such a beautiful mare – you push a button, she’s away. We’re very blessed.”

“She’s gotten bigger every year and better every year,” Dunn said. “She’s done it again this year. So [it’s] a special ride.”

Ryder and Dunn share ownership of Twin B Joe Fresh with Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak. The mare has now won 32 races from 42 starts and earned $2,898,709 in her career.

With her dominance against her cohort, Ryder humoured pinning Twin B Joe Fresh against the boys but said after her win in the Roses Are Red that he wasn’t “adamant” about pursuing the challenge.

“Everybody keeps asking me, so obviously we have it in the back of our minds,” Ryder said. “It’s a possibility, but it has to suit her. We’ll just see if it works out, but I’m not adamant about doing it at all, no.”

Sent off as the 1-9 favourite, Twin B Joe Fresh paid $2.30 to win.

Twin B Joe Fresh Repeats In Betsy Ross On Super Sunday

Twin B Joe Fresh, the 2024 Dan Patch Horse of the Year and O'Brien Award divisional champion, made her seasonal debut a winning one on the Super Sunday card on May 25 at Harrah’s Philadelphia, repeating in the $136,986 Betsy Ross Invitational (Grade 3) for older female pacers.

My Girl EJ (Todd McCarthy), a four-year-old and returning Dan Patch Award winner also making her seasonal debut, got the lead in a :26.4 opening quarter after a four-wide trip around the first turn. Twin B Joe Fresh, who was three-wide during the four-horse battle for the front, settled behind My Girl EJ for driver Dexter Dunn, with Valar Dohaeris (Tim Tetrick) in third.

Twin B Joe Fresh and Dunn bided their time from there as My Girl EJ reached the half in :55 and three-quarters in 1:22. Dunn began to move Twin B Joe Fresh midway around the final turn and the five-year-old mare responded to overtake My Girl EJ in the stretch and draw away by 3-1/4 lengths as part of a :27.1 last quarter for the 1:49.3 victory. Valar Dohaeris finished third.

The victory was Twin B Joe Fresh’s second consecutive Betsy Ross title, making her the first mare to win the event in back-to-back years since Shartin N did so in 2018 and 2019.

Dating back to November 2023, Twin B Joe Fresh has won 13 consecutive stakes or invitational finals, with only two of those victories by less than a length.

“She’s a fun mare to drive with her versatility,” said Dunn. “It was a bit of a scramble early, but I knew as soon as we got behind [My Girl EJ] we’d be all right. She does what you want her to do when you want her to do it. When I moved her, she knew exactly what to do.”

Twin B Joe Fresh has won 31 of 41 career races and earned $2.75 million for trainer Chris Ryder, who co-owns with Dunn and partners Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak. The daughter of Roll With Joe-Fresh Breeze was bred by Brittany Farms.

Sent off as the 1-5 favourite, Twin B Joe Fresh paid $2.40 to win.

He’s back! Bythemissal best in Auger Memorial

On the strength of a decisive 1:48.3 score May 10 at Eldorado Scioto Downs, double millionaire Bythemissal landed back in the Grand Circuit spotlight after grittily parrying a late charge from 56-1 outsider Spring Inhis Step A to seal a 1:49 win in the $136,986 Joseph Auger Memorial (Grade 3) for older pacers.

In line to Yannick Gingras and sent off the 4-5 favourite, Bythemissal completed a third-to-first brush at the end of a :26.3 opening quarter to take control of the terms from Spring Inhis Step A (Tim Tetrick) while Harrah’s Philadelphia track record holder Ruthless Hanover (George Napolitano Jr.) stalked in third.

After rating a :54.3 half, Bythemissal accelerated up the backstretch to evade a first-over challenge from Abuckabett Hanover (Dexter Dunn), who was making his seasonal debut.

While Bythemissal managed to keep his outside foe at bay past three-quarters in 1:21.2, he found himself surrounded by challengers in the final yards as Spring Inhis Step A lunged forward up the open stretch and Mossdale Ben N (Jordan Stratton) mounted a four-wide push around stalling cover. Bythemissal held his ground to prevail by a quarter-length over Spring Inhis Step A. Mossdale Ben N rallied belatedly for third, less than a length behind the winner.

Bythemissal , now a 29-time winner with $2.57 million in earnings, is trained by Ron Burke for Burke Racing Stable, Eric Good, Rich Lombardo Racing and Weaver Bruscemi. Stephen Dey bred the six-year-old Downbytheseaside-Dismissal gelding.

He paid $3.60 to win.

On the undercard, even-money favourite Desperate Man scored his fourth win of the season in the $68,493 #SendItIn Invitational Pace, uncontested on the lead through splits of :26.2, :55.4 and 1:22.4 before staving off fellow millionaire Seven Colors (Jason Bartlett) to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:49.3. Matt Kakaley drove the seven-year-old Shadow Play-Dreamlands Latte gelding to his 31st career victory for trainer Travis Alexander and owner Kathy Cecchin of Arthur, Ont.

Ken Hanover overcame post eight to give a commanding performance in the $34,247 Open Pace, making the lead to the quarter and then storming home with identical :26.4 quarters to complete an easy-looking victory in 1:48.3 four lengths on top. Driver David Miller and trainer/co-owner Roland Mallar teamed up with the five-year-old son of Captaintreacherous-Kjs Justine, who has now won two straight for his ownership group, including Patrick Leavitt, William Jordan and Dennis Osterholt.

Aetos Kronos S resolute in Maxie Lee triumph

Aetos Kronos S took the lead from early pacesetter Sir Pinocchio just past the opening quarter then later fended off that pocket-sitting rival in the stretch to win the $136,986 Maxie Lee Memorial Invitational (Grade 3) for older trotters by three-quarters of a length in 1:51.

Sir Pinocchio (Jason Bartlett) was the quickest off the gate, but Aetos Kronos S and driver Dexter Dunn were already on the move after getting away third. Sir Pinocchio reached the quarter in :27.2, but Aetos Kronos S controlled the fractions from there, hitting the half in :55.2 and three-quarters in 1:22.4 while bracing for a first-over bid from Antognoni S (Yannick Gingras).

Aetos Kronos S kept Antognoni S at bay on the final turn, then did the same to Sir Pinocchio down the lane to win for the third time in four races since arriving in North America from overseas. It was his first victory in his first try on the Grand Circuit.

Antognoni S finished third.

For his career, Aetos Kronos S has won 22 of 66 races and earned $1.48 million. A nine-year-old son of Bold Eagle-Will Of A Woman, the stallion is trained by Marcus Melander for owners Jeffrey and Michael Snyder. He was bred by Allevamento Kronos Srl.

“He’s been great every start and I think he’s just getting better and better,” said Melander. “It’s been a while since he’s raced every 14 days or every three weeks. I think he’s just getting sharper and sharper every week and he’s in really good form right now. It’s very impressive to being doing what he’s doing at nine years old.

“Obviously he’s been a great horse his entire career. But getting older and being away for a little bit with some issues, it’s fun to see him do so good. He enjoys it so much.”

Sent off as the 3-5 favourite, Aetos Kronos S paid $3.40 to win.

Earlier in the day, 3-5 favourite Chapercraz and driver David Miller went to the front at the start and never looked back to win the $34,247 Open Trot by 1-3/4 lengths over Resolve To Win in 1:51.4 for trainer Ron Burke. Hasty Bid finished third. The five-year-old son of Crazy Wow-Chaperess is owned by Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi and Phil Collura.

Louprint heads top Pennsylvania-sired glamour boys

Purses totalling $358,584 were on the line in the Pennsylvania-sired competition for three-year-old pacing males comprising a portion of the Super Sunday undercard at Harrah’s Philadelphia, with Louprint continuing as the king of the division with his third straight victory in Pennsylvania Sire Stakes (PASS) preliminaries.

The Sweet Lou-Rockin Racer colt Louprint , Dan Patch Award winner among freshman pacing males last year, retained the top rung at three with his third Sire Stakes win in as many starts in an undefeated campaign, gaining from the pocket to catch pacesetter Fallout by a “deceptive” half length in 1:50.2.

Fallout (Tim Tetrick), second choice to favoured Louprint, drew just inside him and he left with enough alacrity to encourage driver Ronnie Wrenn Jr. to take the pocket, whereupon the pacesetter put up pedestrian fractions of :28, :56.1 and 1:24. Louprint had come home in :26.1 without much encouragement in winning a PASS at Pocono Downs last week and the powerful late burst of the champion colt again carried the day here, as he again paced his own last quarter in :26.1 to defeat the gallant Fallout for trainer Ron Burke and the partnership of Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, Phil Collura and Lawrence Karr.

The millionaire colt is the top ranked three-year-old pacer eligible to the 2025 North America Cup, assessed as the 3-1 favourite in TROT Magazine's Spring Book .

Twisted Destiny , a Sire Stakes winner at The Meadows who then gained into Louprint’s :26.1 last quarter at Pocono while his six-race win streak over two years was halted, got back on the winning track while upsetting favoured Captain Optimistic (Dexter Dunn) in a 1:49.4 Sire Stakes division.

Todd McCarthy had the Bettors Wish-Tug River Princess colt winging off the gate to lead before a :26.4 opener, then yielded to brushing Captain Optimistic, in his seasonal debut, and sat behind him through mid-fractions of :54.3 and 1:22.2. Twisted Destiny was right-lined for the final eighth and quickly got a small advantage, with Captain Optimistic holding gallantly -- the margin of victory was three parts of a length.

Chris Ryder is the trainer of the super-sharp pacer for Let It Ride Stables, Alberg Racing and Enviro Stables.

Bettors Wish picked up a second sires credit in the Sire Stakes when Wedlock Blue Chip (dam Heavenly Bride) came out of the pocket to win his second straight PASS contest, lowering his mark to 1:50.3 under the guidance of David Miller for trainer Roland Mallar.

Favoured Railroad Station (Yannick Gingras) was put right on the choo-choo and froze the timer with splits of :27, :55.4 and 1:23.2, with Miller able to get right behind the leader with Wedlock Blue Chip. The two-holer moved outside entering the stretch and quickly took the measure of the leader, winding up 1-1/4 lengths clear. The Miller-Mallar braintrust scored the victory for owners Richard Cortese and Donald Hawk.

In Pennsylvania Stallion Series action, the Tall Dark Stranger-Idyllic Beach gelding Delray Beach reduced his lifetime mark to 1:50.2 despite having to go first-over against pacesetting chalk Lous Albano (Yannick Gingras). The winner paced his own last half in :53.4 without cover in winning by 1-3/4 lengths over pocket-sitter Federer (Tim Tetrick). Josert Fonseca drove the Nancy Takter-trained three-year-old for Black Horse Racing, John Fielding and Morrison Racing Stables.

Sugar Man was looped early but pressed on to the lead for driver Tim Tetrick, got some respite during quarter two, then breezed home in :54.3 to lower his mark to 1:50.4. The choice of the bettors, the Papi Rob Hanover-Sweet As Sugar colt succeeded by 2-1/4 lengths for trainer Brett Pelling and owners David McDuffee, Melvin Hartman and Rojac Stables.

Tall Dark Stranger got another Stallion Series siring credit with the colt Banderas (dam Reflect With Me), who was parked most of a :26.4 quarter to gain control, set the pace under the handling of Scott Zeron, then withstood the stretch bid of favourite Snack Attack (Jason Bartlett) by a half-length in 1:52, last quarters twin :27.4. Tony Alagna trains the winner for Brittany Farms, Riverview Racing, Steven Head and Pryde Stables.

Fusion brought trainer Brett Pelling a second Stallion Series win when the Always B Miki-Pure Country colt won his seasonal debut in 1:51.2. Driver Todd McCarthy kept the seasonal debutant third off a :26 first quarter duel, then moved him to the lead mid-race and went on to be an easy three-length winner for Diamond Creek Racing.

Compensate Me sat a good pocket trip, came out at head stretch to challenge, made the lead, then withstood the strong late bid of Damn The Torpedoes (David Miller) by a length in 1:52.2 while pacing his own back half in :55.1. The Sweet Lou-Breakheart Pass gelding was handled by Yannick Gingras for trainer Ron Burke and owners Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi.

Fateful Twist (Heston Blue Chip-Twist Of Fate) pulled a major upset in another division, overcoming a first-over journey to take a new mark of 1:51.2 and return $134.40 to his scattered backers. Odds On Outlier (Peter Wrenn), the only winner in the first two legs of the Stallion Series and the heavy favourite, needed three-eighths of a mile to reach the top, and he may just have paid the price late as Dexter Dunn, who seldom is sent off at 66-1, guided Fateful Twist home first by a head for trainer Jake Huff and owners Cusimano Stables and Carlo Angelillo.

Another Sweet Lou winner, Odds On No Limit (out of Odds On Clearwater) got to loaf to the half in :57.3 before streaking home in an amazing :53.2 to complete a 1:51 mile, take a new mark while winning by 2-1/2 lengths and put up his second Stallion Series win. Todd McCarthy had the sulky duties for trainer Travis Alexander and the ownership of Odds On Racing and UFO 2.

Veteran pacer Twin B Tuffenuff was simply untouchable in the featured event on Saturday, May 17 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Preferred 2 class, going for a $5,000 purse, saw Gilles Barrieau blast Twin B Tuffenuff ($2.30) to the front and roll through fractions of :28.2, :56.4 and 1:26 before sprinting home in 28 seconds flat to win by three open lengths in 1:54. One Eight Hundred (Driven by Mike Downey) rallied for second with Tradition (Adam Merner) finishing third following a rail-skimming journey.

Twin B Tuffenuff Dominates At Charlottetown; Doyle Triples

Twin B Tuffenuff was back and meant business in the Saturday evening, May 10 feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The rain was heavy by times on Prince Edward Island on Saturday but the Red Shores track crew was up to the task as racing conditions remained favourable at the Capital oval. Making his season's debut, Twin B Tuffenuff ($2.10) won the $4,300 feature in 1:56.4 with a one-second variant. Gilles Barrieau was in the race bike for the front-end score, with fractions of :28.1, :58.1 and 1:28.2, over Jewels Dragon (Marc Campbell) and Shadows Terror (Adam Merner). Ron Matheson trains the winning 10-year-old son of Rock N Roll Heaven-In The Pink for Pat Morris of Charlottetown.

Jennifer Doyle 's stable was the hot commodity on the 14-race card as she teamed up with driver David Dowling for a trio of victories. The partnership clicked with the Doyle-owned pacing mare Shake N Blake ($4.90) in 1:58.3 as well as the Jennifer Ritchie-owned pacers Mantario ($4.40) in 1:59 and Like A King ($22.30) in 1:57.3.

Woodmere Rocketman ($3.40) remains undefeated on the season after a 1:57.3 win for trainer/driver Barrieau and owner Daniel Ross of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I. The three-year-old son of Bet The Moon-Wild Ride Hanover has a been a two-time winner in 2025 from as many starts.

Newcomer Sports Teller ($3.40) has been superb since coming to P.E.I. as Hughes drove the son of Sportswriter-Donttellruss to a 1:57.4 victory for his second straight win from the Adam Merner barn. Rebecca MacLeod co-owns with Gabby MacNevin, Mike Arsenault and Joey Farrell.

Certified Fresh: Twin B Joe Fresh is the overwhelming Horse of the Year

Twin B Joe Fresh breezed through her season last year, going 10-for-10 in stakes or invitational finals, and added another triumph Sunday (Feb. 23) when she was named the 2024 Horse of the Year to conclude the U.S. Harness Writers Association’s Dan Patch Awards banquet, presented by Caesars Entertainment, before a crowd of 300 at Rosen Centre.

The Chris Ryder-trained mare, who also received Pacer of the Year for her 4-year-old campaign at Sunday’s banquet, was named Horse of the Year on 126 of the 142 returned ballots. Five-year-old mare Jiggy Jog S, who was announced as Trotter of the Year on Sunday, was second with seven votes.

It is the first time in history that mares have been named Pacer of the Year and Trotter of the Year in the same year. The awards date back to 1970.

“It’s great,” said Ryder. “There have been a lot of people telling me that she’s going to get this, but I never count my chickens before they hatch. So, obviously, it’s not the biggest surprise, but it’s exciting and really cool.”

Also receiving votes for Horse of the Year were 3-year-old trotting colt Karl with four, 3-year-old pacing colt Captain Albano with three, and 3-year-old pacing colt Nijinsky with one.

Twin B Joe Fresh became the second pacing mare in the 78-year history of the Horse of the Year Award to receive the honor, joining Shartin N in 2019.

In balloting for Pacer of the Year, Twin B Joe Fresh was the only horse to get more than five votes, leading the way with 131. In balloting for Trotter of the Year, Jiggy Jog S received 84 votes to top a trio of horses in double digits. She was followed by Maryland with 34 and Karl with 13. Sig Sauer, who topped Karl in divisional Dan Patch Award voting for best 3-year-old male trotter, was the only other horse with more than one vote. He received eight.

Twin B Joe Fresh finished no worse than second in all 13 of her races last year, winning 11 and earning $895,562 to lead all older pacers in money. She captured eight of the nine most lucrative races for pacing mares, including the Breeders Crown Mare Pace, Dayton Distaff Derby, Roses Are Red, Milton, FanDuel Mare Championship, Lady Liberty, and Dorothy Haughton Memorial.

She was voted No. 1 in the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll for the final 21 weeks of the rankings.

Twin B Joe Fresh, a daughter of Roll With Joe—Fresh Breeze, was owned by trainer Ryder, driver Dexter Dunn, Peter Trebotica, and Barry Spak. She was bred by Brittany Farms.

The mare is the first Horse of the Year winner for Ryder, who in the previous five years had finished second on three occasions, with three different horses. Ryder will be inducted into the harness racing Hall of Fame in July of this year.

Twin B Joe Fresh is the second Horse of the Year winner for Dunn, who drove 2022 honoree Bulldog Hanover. Dunn flew to the Dan Patch Awards from Australia where he competed in the Ladbrokes Ultimate Driver Championship on Saturday night (Feb. 22). He arrived in Orlando at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, just as the banquet was starting.

“I came straight from the airport to here, got my suit on and came down,” Dunn said. “We didn’t make it on time, but we were here.”

Dunn, who also collected his fifth Driver of the Year Award in the last six years and drove a record eight Dan Patch winners, said he’s used to rushing from one track to the next to just make it in time for a big race, so coming from Australia to Orlando via San Francisco wasn’t a lot different. Though, he said he expects, “the next couple of days will be pretty tough, but it’s exciting to be here and get the Horse of the Year. Being tired is nothing to worry about.”

Dunn said Twin B Joe Fresh has, “had it all since she’s been a 2-year-old — speed, you could use her any way you want to, but I think this year she really went to another level. I could use her a lot tougher in races and she’d finish them all off much better and she was just so strong.

“She was very dominant this year. She really grew up. I own a piece of her, too, which is a big bonus.”

Ryder and Dunn said Twin B Joe Fresh will return to the races this year at age 5.

“It’s fantastic,” Dunn said. “The sport needs champions and I have never seen it so much as I did with the 4-year-old year of Bulldog Hanover. I saw so much outside interest come because of him. It was one year of it and then it was done, but it really brought racing alive, especially with what he did. So, hopefully, [Twin B Joe Fresh] builds a big following for this year. Hopefully, she comes back and it’s even better again.”

Jiggy Jog S was a perfect six-for-six last year, earning $929,188, before being retired because of a ligament issue. She defeated an international group of male rivals in the MGM Yonkers International Trot in addition to beating the boys in the John Cashman Memorial (in a career-best 1:49.2), Arthur J. Cutler Memorial, and Sebastian K Invitational.

A daughter of Walner—Hot Mess Hanover, Jiggy Jog S was trained by Ake Svanstedt and owned by Ake Svanstedt Inc., Steve Stewart, John Lengacher, and Hickory Hollow Stables. The mare, who was a divisional Dan Patch Award winner in 2023 at age 4, was bred by Vestmarka AB.

Previously announced Dan Patch Award divisional champions also were honored Sunday at the banquet.

Division-winning pacers in addition to Twin B Joe Fresh were 2-year-old colt Louprint, 2-year-old filly Miki And Minnie, 3-year-old colt Captain Albano, 3-year-old filly My Girl EJ, and 6-year-old stallion Abuckabett Hanover.

Division-winning trotters in addition to Jiggy Jog S were 2-year-old colt Maryland, 2-year-old filly Champagne Problems, 3-year-old colt Sig Sauer, 3-year-old filly Allegiant, and 4-year-old stallion Winner’s Bet.

Other honorees included Stan Bergstein-Proximity Achievement Award winner Wanda Polisseni, Trainer of the Year Noel Daley, Owner of the Year Burke Racing/Weaver Bruscemi, and Rising Star Brett Beckwith.

Also recognized at the banquet were the members of the 2025 Hall of Fame class, which will be inducted on July 6 at the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame in Goshen, NY: Ryder, Tom Aldrich and Bob Boni, as well as communicators Debbie Little and Judy Davis-Wilson.

Standardbred Canada announced the winners of the 2024 O’Brien Awards, honouring Canada’s best in harness racing over the past season, at the Black Tie Gala on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025 in Mississauga, Ont.

The event marked the 36th edition of the O’Brien Awards, named in honour of the late Joe O’Brien, an outstanding horseman from Prince Edward Island and member of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame.

In the Older Pacing Mare category, Twin B Joe Fresh has added another trophy to her impressive collection for 2024. The Roll With Joe-Fresh Breeze daughter was utterly dominant as a four-year-old, winning 11 of her 13 starts, including nine consecutive wins, eight of which were stakes finals. The Chris Ryder trainee collected $1,231,252 through her campaign, achieving her lifetime best of 1:47.3 at The Meadowlands in the Dorothy Haughton Memorial. She secured victories in both the Rose Are Red and Milton stakes at Woodbine Mohawk Park, with her largest payout coming from winning the $555,556 Breeders Crown.

Twin B Joe Fresh repeats in FanDuel distaff

East Rutherford, NJ — Chris Ryder entered the 2024 season with high expectations for Twin B Joe Fresh. After watching his 4-year-old mare close out her campaign Saturday (Nov. 30) with a win in the $150,000 FanDuel Championship for female pacers at the Meadowlands, the trainer acknowledged that harness racing’s No. 1-ranked horse had met them all.

Twin B Joe Fresh, who last year became the first 3-year-old filly to beat the mares in the FanDuel Championship, on Saturday became the event’s first two-time winner when she defeated My Girl EJ by 2-3/4 lengths in 1:49.1 at the Big M. Valar Dohaeris was third.

The victory was Twin B Joe Fresh’s 11th in 13 starts this year, with her setbacks both being second-place finishes, in a conditioned race against male rivals to open her campaign and in her elimination of the Breeders Crown last month at the Meadowlands. She came back a week later to win the Breeders Crown final, one of 10 Grand Circuit victories for the daughter of Roll With Joe-Fresh Breeze this season.

When asked what kind of year he expected for Twin B Joe Fresh, Ryder responded, “Just like this, to be honest.

“She had a great year last year, she finished off last year winning this race as a 3-year-old against the aged horses, so the expectations were high. She’s filled them out.”

In the FanDuel Championship, My Girl EJ, one of two 3-year-olds in the race, led the field to the opening quarter in :27 and remained in front through a half in :54.2 and three-quarters in 1:21.4.

Twin B Joe Fresh and driver Dexter Dunn were fourth at that point but had picked up cover from the first-over Grace Hill while pacing around the final turn. Dunn angled Twin B Joe Fresh three-wide entering the stretch and came home with a :27 final quarter to secure the win.

“Grace Hill and My Girl EJ deserved a lot of respect, they’ve done a lot, but we got there,” Ryder said. “(Twin B Joe Fresh) has just got a good set of lungs, she’s got high speed, and she’s gotten stronger as she got older. She can pace home strong. That’s her forte.”

Twin B Joe Fresh is owned by Ryder, Dunn, Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak. She was bred by Brittany Farms.

For her career, Twin B Joe Fresh has won 30 of 40 races, hit the board eight additional times, and earned $2.33 million (with nearly $900,000 this year).

Ryder said Twin B Joe Fresh would return to race in 2025.

“We expect to race her next year, absolutely,” said Ryder, who was elected to the Harness Racing Hall of Fame earlier this year.

“We’re sure we will, as long as she’s healthy.

“What can I say? We’ve got to try to do the same again (next year). That’s a big task, but we’re going to give it a shot.”

Twin B Joe Fresh has been the No. 1-ranked horse in the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll for 20 consecutive weeks.

“It’s been a real thrill,” Ryder said about the mare’s season. “Thank you so much to the media and all the fans. Everyone has had nothing but great things to say about her and, believe me, it’s definitely appreciated.”

As the overwhelming 1-20 favorite, Twin B Joe Fresh paid $2.10 to win.

Twin B Joe Fresh Gives Dunn Breeders Crown Record

Twin B Joe Fresh and driver Dexter Dunn capped off the Breeders Crown weekend in style at The Meadowlands.

Dunn picked up his record-setting sixth driving victory of the weekend when he guided Twin B Joe Fresh to a 1:49 win in the $555,556 Mare Pace on Saturday, Oct. 26, the last of 12 Breeders Crown events hosted by The Big M over the weekend.

Twin B Joe Fresh, harness racing’s No. 1-ranked horse, defeated Kobes Gigi and driver David Miller by 1-3/4 lengths, missing the stakes record by one-fifth of a second. Sylvia Hanover was third for Bob McClure.

The triumph was the fourth of the night for Dunn and followed his two-victory performance Friday. His six wins set the Breeders Crown record for the most driving wins in a year, breaking the previous record of five set by David Miller in 2015 at Woodbine Racetrack.

Dunn, a New Zealand native who moved to the U.S. in 2018, has won 21 Breeders Crowns since his debut in the series in 2019. His total is the eighth most in the 41-year history of the event.

“It’s a thrill,” Dunn said. “Not in my wildest dreams did I think that this weekend would happen when I moved over here. I’ve had so much support, so many good horses to drive. It’s just been a great ride.”

Dunn won Friday with two-year-old female pacer Miki And Minnie and two-year-old male trotter Maryland, then added Saturday wins with three-year-old female pacer My Girl EJ, three-year-old male pacer Mirage Hanover, four-year-old male trotter Winners Bet, and Twin B Joe Fresh.

“I had a lot of great horses to drive this weekend, but it’s Breeders Crown, it’s not easy,” Dunn said. “It’s tough racing. You saw it tonight, there were a lot of tough miles. But the trainers had them ready and they performed.”

Twin B Joe Fresh, owned by a group that includes Dunn and trainer Chris Ryder, performed much like she has all season. The four-year-old daughter of Roll With Joe-Fresh Breeze notched her 10th win of the season in 12 starts and upped her seasonal earnings to $1,134,488.

She came into the Breeders Crown final off a second-place finish from post 10 in her elimination last week but left no doubt about Saturday’s outcome after taking the lead at the half and opening a 3-1/2 length lead in the stretch.

“She felt so good tonight,” Dunn said. “Going to the gate, she was up on her tippy toes and that’s a sign she was ready to rock and roll. Coming around the last turn, she just felt so good. I called on her and she changed gears and sprinted off well.”

Twin B Joe Fresh opened this season with a second-place finish against male foes before reeling off nine consecutive victories heading into her Breeders Crown elim. With her triumph in the Breeders Crown, she has won seven of the eight richest races of the season for pacing mares, including the Roses Are Red, Dayton Distaff Derby, and Milton Stakes.

“I’ve been trying to take it one race at a time,” Ryder said. “Dexter has been looking after her, we really haven’t bottomed her out. Basically, we wanted to keep her good for this week. We had a hiccup last week, but we got over that. I was pretty sure she was a hundred percent tonight.”

In addition to Dunn and Ryder, Twin B Joe Fresh is owned by longtime Ryder assistant Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak.

“It means a lot,” said Ryder, who won two Breeders Crowns over the weekend. “It’s been very exciting all year. We started out the year and we were pretty confident with her. Then she started winning and kept winning and it’s just been fantastic. She’s got a lot of support. I just didn’t want to disappoint tonight. It’s a big relief for me.”

Bred by Brittany Farms, Twin B Joe Fresh has won 29 of 39 races and hit the board a total of 37 times. She has banked $2,589,952 lifetime.

Sent off as the 1-9 favourite in the Mare Pace, she paid $2.10 to win.

Twin B Joe Fresh Leads Poll For 14th Straight Week

Twin B Joe Fresh stayed at No. 1 for the 14th consecutive week in the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll with little movement in the Week 18 rankings released on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Twin B Joe Fresh held the top spot followed by Jiggy Jog S, whose connections announced the trotting mare's retirement on Monday.

Chantilly, who added a divisional Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final title to her undefeated season, remained No. 3 in the rankings but picked up one first-place vote. Captain Albano and Karl rounded out the top five.

The only shift occurred with Nijinsky, who also won his divisional Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final, moving up from seventh to sixth in a swap of positions with idle Maryland.

The Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll, which will be released every Tuesday through the remainder of the Grand Circuit season, does not determine U.S. Horse of the Year. The members of the U.S. Harness Writers Association vote on all Dan Patch Award division winners plus Trotter of the Year, Pacer of the Year and Horse of the Year.

TWIN B HIGH TIDE WINS OHSS GRAY CHAMPIONSHIP

Hanners picked up his first title of the night in the Gray Championship for freshman colt and gelding pacers, Austin Hanners rallied Twin B High Tide (pictured) down the stretch to win in 1:53.4.

Off the gate, Chris Lems hustled Downbythewater to the lead which he held for the first three-quarters with fractions of :28, :57,3, and 1:25.1. Hanners powered Twin B High Tide up the backstretch, pulling to the leader’s wheel around the final turn. As the two hit the top of the stretch, Hanners asked for more from the son of Downbytheseaside and the colt responded, reeling in Downbythewater, drawing away to win by three lengths. The Onyx Dragon finished second with Downbythewater third.

“This horse he has a huge motor,” said Hanners. “When I asked him, he gave me everything he had. He’s been awesome. This means everything to us. We finished out the way we wanted to.”

It was the fifth win of the year for Twin B High Tide who is trained by Hanner’s mother Alicia. The colt won the Buckeye Stallion Series final last weekend at Dayton Hollywood Raceway. Twin B High Tide is owned by Hanners Racing and was bred by Twinbrook Limited

Twin B Joe Fresh Ranks No. 1 For 13th Consecutive Week

Twin B Joe Fresh extended her streak to 13 weeks at No. 1 in the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll while some of the changes include Chantilly moving into the top three and Sig Sauer and Fallout joining the Top 10 in the Week 17 edition of the rankings released on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

No. 1 Twin B Joe Fresh and No. 2 Jiggy Jog S were idle. Chantilly, undefeated in eight lifetime starts, won the fifth Gold Series leg of the Ontario Sires Stakes for two-year-old female pacers to move from fifth to third in the rankings. It is the first time female horses have occupied the top three positions since Week 22 in 2021, when Lyons Sentinel, Venerable and Test Of Faith led the way.

Captain Albano, also idle, remained fourth in this week’s rankings while Karl, who finished fifth in the Kentucky Futurity, dropped from third to fifth.

Kentucky Futurity winner Sig Sauer joined the Top 10 for the first time, at No. 8. Fallout, who won a division of the International Stallion Stakes, debuted at No. 10.

“The Buckeye Stallion Series Championship 2 year old pacing colt division went to Twin B High Tide in a new lifetime mark of 1:52.1. Guided by Hanners, the son of Downbytheseaside settled in fourth and stayed patient as the opening fraction was posted in :26.4. Heading to the :55.4 half-mile marker, 1-5 Twin B High Tide followed cover. The colt kicked it into gear and flew three-wide on the backside. There was no catching Twin B High Tide as the three-quarters came in 1:23.1. Twin B High Tide won with three lengths to spare.

The Onyx Dragon (Justin Irvine) finished second and Go Jim Dandy (Myers) was third.

Twin B Joe Fresh Leads Poll For A Dozen Weeks

Twin B Joe Fresh , who captured the Dayton Distaff Derby last week to extend her win streak to nine, pushed her consecutive weeks in the No. 1 spot in the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll to 12 when the Week 16 rankings were released on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

The four-year-old pacing mare received 27 of 35 first-place votes. Jiggy Jog S, who won the Dayton Oaks last week, remained No. 2 in the poll and garnered seven first-place votes.

The remainder of the rankings in the Top 10 were unchanged with the exception of Highland Kismet and Its A Love Thing swapping positions in the nine and 10 slots. Highland Kismet won a Bluegrass Stakes division last week while Its A Love Thing finished second in a leg of the Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series.

Twin B Joe Fresh romps at Hollywood Dayton

Dayton, OH — Twin B Joe Fresh headed to Saturday’s stakes action at Hollywood Dayton Raceway with top billing, and the sport’s highest-ranked star did not disappoint.

Twin B Joe Fresh won the $250,000 Dayton Distaff Derby for older female pacers by 4-1/2 lengths in a track-record 1:48.3 over a surface labeled “good” one race after Jiggy Jog S captured the $250,000 Dayton Oaks for older female trotters by 3-1/4 lengths in 1:52.1.

Both mares were driven by Dexter Dunn, who swept the night’s four major stakes, adding the $250,000 Dayton Trotting Derby with Logan Park and the $250,000 Dayton Pacing Derby with Abuckabett Hanover. Dunn won six races total on the card.

Twin B Joe Fresh, ranked No. 1 in the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll, went to the lead at the start of the Dayton Distaff and posted fractions of :26.3, :54.2, and 1:21 on her way to her ninth consecutive win of the season. Sylvia Hanover finished second and Always B Naughty was third.

Trained by Chris Ryder, the 4-year-old Twin B Joe Fresh has nine victories and a second in 10 starts this season. For her career, the daughter of Roll With Joe -Fresh Breeze has won 28 of 37 races and earned $2.06 million.

No newcomers joined the Top 10 in the Week 14 Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll released on Tuesday, Sept. 17, but there was shuffling of positions behind No. 1 Twin B Joe Fresh and No. 2 Jiggy Jog S.

Holding the top spot for the 10th consecutive week, Twin B Joe Fresh won the Milton Stakes for older pacing mares last week while trotting mare Jiggy Jog S was idle.

Nijinsky, who was idle, swapped positions No. 3 and No. 4 in the poll following Karl’s second-place finish by a neck to Dame Good Time in the Kentucky Sire Stakes Championship Series final for three-year-old male trotters. Legendary Hanover, who also was idle, remained fifth.

Highland Kismet, who won his Canadian Trotting Classic elimination last week, moved from seventh to sixth. He was followed by Chantilly, who won her Shes A Great Lady elimination and jumped from ninth to seventh.

Its A Love Thing, who was fourth in the Kentucky Sire Stakes championship for three-year-old female pacers, dropped from sixth to eighth.

The shuffling pushed idle Warrawee Michelle down a notch to ninth. Captain Albano, also idle, remained unchanged at No. 10.

Nijinsky, Legendary Hanover and Captain Albano compete Thursday in the Little Brown Jug.

Twin B Joe Fresh Adds Milton To Stakes Streak

Twin B Joe Fresh completed the sweep of Woodbine Mohawk Park's marquee pacing mare events for 2024 with a victory in Saturday’s $205,000 Milton Stakes.

A winner of the $305,000 Roses Are Red Stakes in June, Twin B Joe Fresh had all eyes on her as the 1-9 favourite against five of the sport’s finest mares in her return to Mohawk.

Leaving from the inside post, Twin B Joe Fresh scooted out to get away second behind rival Sylvia Hanover (Bob McClure), who led through a :27.1 opening panel. Driver and co-owner Dexter Dunn moved Twin B Joe Fresh to the lead in the second quarter and posted a reasonable half of :56.

With the ball in her court, Twin B Joe Fresh kicked things up on the far turn with a :27.2 third quarter before unleashing as easy of a :25.4 final quarter as possible to win in 1:49.1.

Not to be forgotten, Sylvia Hanover finished very strong right behind the winner to edge Silver Label (Doug McNair) for the place position. Her stablemate Prohibition Legal (Louis-Philippe Roy) finished fourth.

“She felt great; post parade tonight was probably the best she felt all year,” said Dunn of Twin B Joe Fresh. “She’s extremely bright at the moment, she’s feeling good and I was really happy with her going to the gate.”

A four-year-old daughter of Roll With Joe and Fresh Breeze bred by Brittany Farms, Twin B Joe Fresh is trained by Chris Ryder, who shares ownership with Dunn, Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak.

The sport's top ranked Standardbred has won eight straight stakes in nine starts this season to earn nearly $700,000. Saturday’s win was the 27th career score for Twin B Joe Fresh to take her over $2.1 million in lifetime earnings.

A $2 win ticket on Twin B Joe Fresh paid $2.20.

Twin B Joe Fresh No. 1 For Sixth Straight Week

Twin B Joe Fresh and Karl remained No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, while Captain Albano made his first Top 10 appearance of the season in the Week 10 edition of the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll released on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Last week, Twin B Joe Fresh won the Cleopatra Invitational at Eldorado Scioto Downs in a track record 1:48.2. It was the four-year-old female pacer’s seventh consecutive victory after opening her 2024 campaign with a second-place finish.

Karl also was victorious last week, capturing the second leg of the Kentucky Sire Stakes Championship Series in 1:51.1 at Lexington’s Red Mile. It was the three-year-old male trotter’s first start since his Hambletonian triumph on Aug. 3, and his third straight win.

Jiggy Jog S and Nijinsky followed the top two, with both moving up one spot after posting victories last week. Jiggy Jog S won the Sebastian K Invitational and Nijinsky won the fourth Gold leg of the Ontario Sires Stakes. Completing the top five was Legendary Hanover, who dropped from third after a nose loss to Captain Albano in the Max C. Hempt Memorial.

Captain Albano cracked the Top 10 at No. 8, following sixth-ranked Its A Love Thing, who was idle, and seventh-ranked Warrawee Michelle, who jumped three spots after winning the Delmonica Hanover last week.

Highland Kismet, who was idle, and Papi Grad, who won a division of the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes, completed the Top 10.

The Saturday card at Eldorado Scioto Downs on August 17 started off hot with a 1:49 opening race but even a power surge delay followed by a rain delay couldn’t dampen the racing events to come later in the card. Twin B Joe Fresh took the $136,987 Cleopatra Invitational for older mares, setting a new track record for female pacers of 1:48.2 while Seafire, a four-year-old Ohio-sired horse, won the $136,987 #SendItIn Invitational pace for older pacers in 1:48.

In the Cleopatra, Man Dontforgetme (Tyler Smith) took the early lead with Grace Hill (Hanners) settling in the pocket. Strong Poison (Noble) made an early move heading to the :26 opening quarter and made the lead just before they went under the line for the first time. Twin B Joe Fresh and Brett Miller, who floated away fourth from the rail, pulled at the :53.4 half, and by the 1:21 third-quarter was head-to-head with Strong Poison. Man Dontforget Me pulled from third to try and track down the leader but couldn’t quite get there, as Twin B Joe Fresh won by a length and a half; Zanatta (Eric Goodell) was third.

“I felt like a kid from the day before Christmas,” said winning driver Miller, when asked how he felt getting the call to drive Twin B Joe Fresh.

“Dex (Dunn) told me all about her…she come first up and he said that she could just grind out there and take care of business and she did. I never even popped her ear plugs, she felt like she could have went much more.”

Twin B Joe Fresh , a four-year-old mare by Roll With Joe out of the Captaintreacherous mare Fresh Breeze, was bred by Brittany Farms. The Chris Ryder trainee now has $2,032,074 earned lifetime and has seven wins in eight seasonal starts. Twin B Joe Fresh is owned by Chris Ryder, Dexter Dunn, Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak.

In the #SendItIn, Carbine (Austin Hanners) rolled to the :25.2 opening quarter from the rail with Artatac A (Dan Noble) getting the pocket trip. At the :53.3 half Artatac A, pulled and brought along Seafire (Ronnie Wrenn, Jr.) second over. Sprinting by the 1:20.2 third-quarter, Artatac A had made the lead which left Seafire with open track to sprint to the lead and win by two and three-quarter lengths in a new lifetime mark of 1:48. Buzzsaw Russ (Dave Palone) followed the Seafire cover but just could not overcome the margin to be second. Artatac A held on for third.

“I just wanted to use my post position to get away well and I was able to do so,” said Wrenn, Jr. “When Danny popped the pocket at the half, I was happy to be second over and luckily for me Danny’s horse cleared…at the three-quarter pole and my horse responded well.

“I was a little nervous, Buzzsaw Russ is a really nice horse and he sat behind me and I thought he had a lot of pace and he did. Luckily Brian’s done a good job with Seafire and he raced really well.”

Seafire , by Downbytheseaside out of the Towners Big Guy mare Wildfire Princess, was bred by Enos Weaver. Owned by Country Club Aces, Joelyn Ridder, Mark Kantrowitz and Scott Davis, Seafire now has $274,968 in lifetime earnings with seven victories this season in 11 starts.

There was a lot of movement in each of the two $89,041 divisions of the Ohio Sires Stakes for two-year-old filly trotters. Dream Something (Smith) took the first division in 1:55.4 and Rose Run Allison (Noble) took the second division in 1:57.

In the first division, Brink Street (Wrenn, Jr.) was the first to make the front going to the :28.1 opening quarter. Dave Palone pulled Freedom Hill first up and made the lead before going under the wire for the first time. Aunt Laura (Miller) was then first up heading to the :57 half and made the lead halfway down the backside. Dublins Dragonfly (Noble) applied pressure going to the 1:25.2 third quarter and around the last turn Brink Street came back to be three-wide with Dream Something four-wide. Dream Something and Aunt Laura battled it out down the stretch with Dream Something winning by a neck; Mega Money (Trevor Smith) got up for third.

The mile was a new lifetime mark for Dream Something, trained by Miles Wollam who co-owns with Julie Ann and Dale Sweet. The filly, by Uncle Peter out of the Glidemaster mare Travelin Dream, who was a $30,000 Ohio Select Sale purchase, now has three wins in five lifetime starts and $109,350 in earnings.

In the second division, Up (Chris Lems) took the early lead before the :29.2 quarter. Rose Run Allison pulled first up mid-way through the turn and made the lead, but stablemate Mocha Hill (Wrenn, Jr.) was quick to take over before the :59.1 half. Move Over Boys (Matthew Brown) made a quick bid to challenge from fifth but couldn’t make the top by the 1:28 third quarter. Rose Run Allison came out of the pocket and won by a length and a half over Mocha Hill. Aunt Lilly (Ty. Smith), who came three-wide around the last turn, was third.

Ron Burke trains Rose Run Allison for Burke Racing, Hatfield Stables, Knox Services and Beasty LLC. The filly by Long Tom out of the Broadway Hall mare Rose Run Timeless was a $105,000 Ohio Select Sale purchase and has now made $158,975 in five lifetime starts with three wins.

There were also three $41,096 open events held on the under card at Scioto. Alexa Skye (Noble) took the Filly & Mare Open Pace in her 100th lifetime start in 1:50.2. The seven-year-old mare by Somebeachsomewhere is trained by Virgil Morgan, Jr. for owners by Let It Ride and Odds On Racing. Her 31st lifetime win pushed her earnings to $673,511.

Flemsteen (Ty. Smith) overcame an early miscue to take the Open Trot in 1:53. The six-year-old gelded son by Explosive Matter is co-owned by trainer Chris Beaver, Bill Manes and RBH Ventures and now has 25 wins in 104 lifetime starts and $634,151 in earnings. Noble and Morgan, Jr. teamed up again to take the Open Pace with Chase H Hanover in 1:49.4. The six-year-old gelded son of Somebeachsomewhere is owned by Odds On Racing and Carl Howard. Chase H Hanover has 28 wins in 91 lifetime starts and more than $1.06 million in lifetime earnings.

The 90-day 2024 Eldorado Scioto Downs race meet runs through Saturday, Sept. 14.

Twin B Joe Fresh Ferocious In Lady Liberty

Twin B Joe Fresh made a shambles of the $202,778 Lady Liberty Stakes, for older pacing mares, demolishing her rivals and scampering to a 1:48 blowout victory to conclude the stakes events on the Saturday, Aug. 3 Hambletonian Day program at the Meadowlands.

The four-year-old Roll With Joe mare from the Captaintreacherous dam Fresh Breeze was a winner for the sixth time in seven starts this year with the powerhouse performance, and she gave co-owner Dexter Dunn his sixth driving win on the card.

Dunn and Twin B Joe Fresh left from the outside but took a seat on the first turn as a few other mares were more intent on cutting the fractions. Silver Label and Scott Zeron left fast from the pole position but were overpowered by Grace Hill (Todd McCarthy) into the first turn. Always B Naughty and driver Yannick Gingras swept three-wide to gain control at the :26.3 opening quarter fraction. Tim Tetrick settled second choice Sylvia Hanover into a hole early, but past the quarter, he saw Grace Hill making a second move and got on her back quickly. Sylvia Hanover had control of the action before the half in :53.3 with Dunn sitting chilly with Twin B Joe Fresh content to race from off the pace.

Dunn sent Twin B Joe Fresh in motion past the half, and the mare accelerated quite quickly as Tetrick anxiously tried to get Sylvia Hanover’s attention going to three-quarters. Twin B Joe Fresh just blew by Sylvia Hanover like she was standing still and quickly drew distance following the 1:21.3 three-quarter clocking. With Dunn a passenger, Twin B Joe Fresh completed her mile with a :26.2 final quarter and won by 2-1/4 lengths.

The battle for minor spoils found Silver Label finally freeing herself from a bad shuffle on the final turn to rally stoutly for second with Zanatta (Joe Bongiorno) coming from the clouds to finish third.

Co-owned as well by trainer Chris Ryder, Twin B Joe Fresh is also owned by partners Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak, and was bred by Brittany Farms.

“She’s just been a better mare this year,” said Dunn following the victory to give the pacing powerhouse 25 lifetime tallies. “Sometimes she’d get a little weak towards the end of a mile last year, but this year she’s just powering through the finish line.

As the 3-5 favourite, Twin B Joe Fresh returned $3.20 to win. Her total earnings are now $1,963,582.

Nothing changed at the top of the Week 6 Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll released on Tuesday, July 23, but there were three newcomers at the bottom of the Top 10.

Twin B Joe Fresh, who was idle, remained No. 1 for the second week in a row. Spots eight, nine and 10 had Elista Hanover, Sylvia Hanover and Papi Grad move in while Winners Bet, T C I and Highland Kismet dropped out.

Elista Hanover extended her win streak to nine with a victory in a division of the Tompkins-Geers Stakes while Sylvia Hanover won the Clara Barton and Papi Grad captured a Pennsylvania Sire Stakes division.

Nijinsky, who won an Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Mid-Season Final, took over the No. 2 spot in a swap of positions with idle Legendary Hanover. Its A Love Thing, another OSS Gold Mid-Season winner, remained fourth while idle Jiggy Jog S rounded out the top five.

The 56th edition of the Governor’s Plate, presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge, had Twin B Tuffenuff and driver Gilles Barrieau take a second-over tow to victory on Saturday, July 20 at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

In the $35,000 Invitational event, Bee Two Bee (Jason Hughes) hit the lead through splits of :27 and :56.1 with elimination winner Rollwithhottytoddy (Myles Heffernan Sr.) taking the outside route first-over. Twin B Tuffenuff grabbed the cover and followed second-over to three-quarters in 1:24.4. Rollwithhottytoddy struck the lead in the stretch drive and Twin B Tuffenuff flipped off cover to power up to a one-length victory in 1:53.4. Rollwithhottytoddy was second while Fern Hill General (Brodie MacPhee) finished third.

Ron Matheson trains Twin B Tuffenuff , a nine-year-old Rock N Roll Heaven-In The Pink gelding, for owner Pat Morris of Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Overcoming a break in in the third quarter, Twin B High Tide persevered to win by 4-1/4 lengths in 1:53.2 for the mother/son, trainer/driver team of Alicia and Austin Hanners. Leaving from post five, Twin B High Tide went to the lead and tripped the beam in :29 and :58.2. Going towards the three-quarters, Johnny Up (Chris Lems) made the lead with a rush and was well in front with the timer reading 1:26.3. Into the last turn, Twin B High Tide made the break trying to reel the race leader in. The 1-5 favourite re-rallied to win over Johnny Up. Southern Rockfest (L. Hanners) was third. Twin B Joe Fresh Flies In Haughton Score

Twin B Joe Fresh and driver Dexter Dunn went to the front on the backstretch, fended off a challenge from Sylvia Hanover, and then held off late-closing Silver Label by a half length to win the $191,781 Dorothy Haughton Memorial for older female pacers in a career-best 1:47.3 on Saturday, July 13 at The Meadowlands. Sylvia Hanover was third.

Grace Hill led the field to the opening quarter in :27 before Twin B Joe Fresh moved from third to take the top spot and, with Sylvia Hanover charging up alongside, reached the half in :53.4. Sylvia Hanover got in front heading to the turn, but was unable to clear, and those two raced together to three-quarters in 1:21.1.

Twin B Joe Fresh seized control entering the stretch, but her work was not completed until she rebuffed Silver Label at the finish. It was Twin B Joe Fresh’s fifth win in six races this season and her seventh consecutive victory on the Grand Circuit dating back to last November.

“She’s racing against a great group of mares, so nothing comes easy,” Dunn said. “She really had to dig deep late in the stretch there to hold them off. All credit to her, she did all the work and put an amazing mile in.”

Twin B Joe Fresh is owned by trainer Chris Ryder, Dunn, Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak. The four-year-old daughter of Roll With Joe-Fresh Breeze was bred by Brittany Farms. She has won 24 of 33 career races and earned $1.86 million.

Dunn Enjoying Cool Moments With 'Joe Fresh'

After teaming up for a memorable stakes and milestone win two weeks ago, Twin B Joe Fresh and driver Dexter Dunn will return to action on Saturday, July 13 in the $140,000 USD Dorothy Haughton Memorial for older female pacers at The Meadowlands.

Last time out, Twin B Joe Fresh posted a neck victory over Sylvia Hanover in the Perfect Sting Stakes at the Big M. In addition to being Twin B Joe Fresh’s sixth consecutive triumph on the Grand Circuit dating back to last November, it was Dunn’s 2,000th win since arriving in the U.S. from New Zealand in the summer of 2018.

Dunn is among the co-owners of Twin B Joe Fresh, with trainer Chris Ryder, longtime Ryder assistant Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak.

“I had no idea at all about being close to 2,000 wins,” said Dunn. “I came back to the paddock after the race and they told me. I was already pumped up for winning the race and that was like a cherry on top. It was quite cool to get it on her.”

Dunn won 2,226 races in New Zealand, where he led the Premiership in victories for 10 consecutive years before moving to the States. He has been the U.S. Harness Writers Association’s Driver of the Year four times since then, from 2019 to 2022.

He has sat behind a dozen horses to receive Dan Patch Awards, including 2022 Canadian and U.S. Horse of the Year Bulldog Hanover and 2022 U.S. Trotter of the Year Bella Bellini. He has won 15 Breeders Crowns, the eighth most in history.

“I’ve driven a lot of nice horses for a lot of good trainers,” said Dunn. “I’ve been pretty lucky to sit behind these kinds of horses. When I came over [to the U.S.], I was just hoping to do a little bit of good. I couldn’t have dreamed of winning the races I have. I still pinch myself sometimes. I’m very thankful.”

Twin B Joe Fresh also keeps Dunn pinching himself. The four-year-old daughter of Roll With Joe-Fresh Breeze has hit the board in 30 of 32 career races, winning 23 and earning $1.77 million. She finished last season by winning the Matron Stakes and FanDuel Mare Pace Championship, becoming the first three-year-old filly to defeat her older rivals in the nine-year history of the event.

After a second-place finish against male rivals in her 2024 debut, Twin B Joe Fresh romped to a stakes and track record 1:48.2 victory in the Betsy Ross Invitational at Harrah’s Philadelphia, then captured her elimination and the final of the Roses Are Red Stakes at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Her 1:48 clocking in the final was only one-fifth of a second off the Canadian record for a female pacer.

“She’s come back super,” said Dunn. “Physically, she’s gotten stronger. She was already a tank of a horse, but she got bigger, which is kind of hard to believe. On the track, she’s pretty intelligent; she knows what she’s doing. What makes her so good, too, is she’s a dream to drive. You can really do whatever you want with her. When you ask her to go, she knows it’s time to go and does her job.”

In the Perfect Sting, Twin B Joe Fresh was fourth heading to the last turn, when Dunn moved her to the outside to follow first-over Sylvia Hanover. Twin B Joe Fresh paced her last quarter in :25.1 to overtake Sylvia Hanover, Canada’s 2023 Horse of the Year, as they approached the finish line.

“Sylvia Hanover is such a good horse, it was tough to get past her,” said Dunn. “It was a really good effort by 'Joe Fresh.'

“Winning a big race is always cool, but it’s a special feeling when you own a horse like her, especially with Chris and Pete and the team. I have about one horse a year; I don’t expect to get another one like her. We’re enjoying the ride with her.”

In Saturday’s Dorothy Haughton Memorial, Twin B Joe Fresh will face the second through fourth-place finishers from the Perfect Sting: Sylvia Hanover, Silver Label and Valar Dohaeris. The nine-horse field also includes Grace Hill, the pacing mare division’s Dan Patch Award winner last year, and millionaire Kentucky Sire Stakes champ Strong Poison.

Twin B Joe Fresh, the 8-5 morning line favourite, will start from post two. Sylvia Hanover, the 5-2 second choice, will leave from post three with driver Bob McClure. Always B Naughty, who was third in the Roses Are Red and second in the Betsy Ross, is next at 5-1 and will go from post five with Andy McCarthy.

The Dorothy Haughton is part of a stakes-filled night at The Meadowlands, highlighted by the $650,000 USD Meadowlands Pace for three-year-olds. The card also includes the $428,000 USD William R. Haughton Memorial for older male pacers, $425,000 USD E.T. Gerry Jr. Hambletonian Maturity for four-year-old trotters, and divisions of the Jerry Silverman Memorial (formerly Mistletoe Shalee) for three-year-old female pacers and Stanley Dancer Memorial and Delvin Miller Memorial for three-year-old male and female trotters, respectively.

Twin B Tuffenuff One Of Five Wins For Barrieau At Charlottetown

Twin B Tuffenuff was among five winners driver Gilles Barrieau was aboard during the Saturday, July 6 afternoon program at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Pointed forward from Post 5 in the featured $3,800 Preferred Handicap Pace, Twin B Tuffenuff led at every call to win by five lengths in 1:52.3 for driver Gilles Barrieau , trainer Ron Matheson and owner Pat Morris of Charlottetown, P.E.I. Impeccable Shadow (Adam Merner) closed sharply to finish second over Time To Dance (Marc Campbell).

Barrieau and Matheson also teamed up to win with Blood Money (1:53.2) in Race 10 and Selkirk Echo (1:56) in Race 11. Barrieau’s other driving victories among his five-win performance came from Starship Glyde (1:57.3) in Race 2 for trainer Earl Watts and with the Jeff Holmes-trained Allaboutthecash (1:56.4) in Race 3.

The Race 13 finale had a mishap in the final turn, as the first-over Howmac Agustus (Brad Smith) made a break in heavy traffic. This caused Midnight Mood (Ken Murphy) to go wide and pull up, while Shakemeup Hanover (Colin Sheppard) fell to the track but was able to immediately get back on his feet. Those two horses failed to finish, but walked off the track in good health, with just Shakemeup Hanover receiving some minor scrapes. The other six horses finished the mile with Blue Monk (Brodie MacPhee) winning in 1:56.4 for trainer Zac Noye.

Friday's Baby Race Session At Mohawk Complete

Uncorking a :55.4 back half, Twin B Courageous showed both heart and speed during the session of baby races on Friday, July 5 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Debuting with a 1:56.3 off-the-pace win at Mohawk three weeks ago, Twin B Courageous made his second appearance of the season on Friday and this time cut the mile to emerge victorious. Driver Bob McClure asked the gelding to set a tepid early tempo with fractions of :30.3 and 1:00.2, then gave the pacer his cue. A 1:29.1 third station was followed by a :27 final quarter to hit the wire in 1:56.1. Power Code, who already has a 1:54.2 pari-mutuel victory under his belt, closed well when asked by driver Jody Jamieson to finish a length back in second.

A half-brother to Twin B Tuffenuff, Twin B Courageous (Papi Rob Hanover - In The Pink) is trained by Francis Dumouchel for Ecurie CSL of Sorel-Tracy, Que. Bred by Twinbrook Farms Ltd., Twin B Courageous was a $95,000 Harrisburg yearling.

O'Brien Award winner Run Director only has four registered foals in his 2021 breeding credits, and now he's picked up his first record performer thanks to the Friday morning effort of two-year-old trotting filly Race Director. The homebred filly owned by Tom & Elizabeth Rankin of St. Catharines, Ont. did all the work in her debut for driver Sylvain Filion, winning in 2:00.3 by a neck over former farm friend Graces Secret (Doug McNair) for the fastest trotting mile of the morning.

Race Director is out of the Angus Hall mare Fiery Manes, a full-sister to former Preferred and Open class competitor Charlie Is A Joker.

Twin B Powerball Wins Preferred In 3R Debut

Twin B Powerball made his Quebec debut a winning one in the Preferred Pace at Hippodrome 3R on Sunday afternoon, June 30.

In the $5,000 top class, 6-5 favourite Thong Control (Marie-Claude Auger) made a costly break on the move in the backstretch and was out of contention. That left Twin B Powerball and trainer/driver David Pilon, the 2-1 second choice, all alone on the front end with Celia Bayama (Stephane Brosseau) sitting second. Twin B Powerball motored on through fractions of :28.2, :58.4 and 1:27.4 to win with ease by 4-1/2 lengths in 1:56 flat. Celia Bayama held for second with Bettor Half (Denis St. Pierre) holding third.

Twin B Powerball , who had been racing from Ontario and was coming off a two-month layoff, notched his third win of the season from 15 starts and his 12th victory lifetime, pushing his earnings to $132,805 for owners Ecurie Francis Richard Inc., and Gaston Bibeau. A $2 win ticket on the six-year-old Bettors Delight-Power Nap gelding paid $6.40.

The very impressive sophomore Ambitious Mind was used twice in a $7,000 pace for Quebec-bred three-year-olds before winning in a romp.

D Gs Lorijeanne (Jonathan Lachance) went right to the lead from the rail with Gold Nugget (William Roy) leaving from post seven and then dropping into the two-hole spot to the first quarter in :27.4. Driver Francis Picard then went first-over with the overhelming 1-9 favourite, Ambitious Mind, to try and take the lead away from D Gs Lorijeanne and then they dropped into the two-hole spot after the half-mile marker in :57.4. As the field entered the backstretch, Ronda Du Lac (Pierre-Luc Roy) started up first-over, but then Picard came back out with Ambitious Mind and went after D Gs Lorijeanne, passing that foe at the three-quarters in 1:27.4. Then as if shot out of a cannon, Ambitious Mind tore away from the field and opened up in the stretch, winning in a romp by 4-3/4 lengths in 1:58.3. Ronda Du Lac was second with D Gs Lorijeanne third.

The win was the second in a row for five-time seasonal starter Ambitious Mind , who is trained by Dominique Picard and was bred by Francis Picard. The Big Jim-Rainbow Palace gelding is owned by Severine Picard, Martin Bilodeau and Claude Thibault, all of Que. He paid just $2.20 to win.

Driver Stephane Brosseau was at his best on Sunday as he scored four wins on the afternoon, the first time he has done it this season.

Delco Dynamo and trainer/driver Michel Audet scored the highest win price of the season at 3R on Sunday, winning the seventh race pace in 1:56 and paying $89 to win, $82.20 to place and $19.50 to show.

Live racing resumes next Friday, July 5 at 4 p.m. with the National Driving Championship, presented by Standardbred Canada, taking place to determine who will represent Canada in the 2025 World Driving Championship in New Zealand. The nine drivers competing will include Quebec representatives Stephane Brosseau and Robert Shepherd taking on defending champion Doug McNair along with Tyler Borth, Redmond Doucet, David Dowling, Phil Giesbrecht, Mike Hennessey and James MacDonald.

Twin B Joe Fresh Victorious In Roses Are Red Stakes

Once driver Dexter Dunn got Twin B Joe Fresh rolling for the lead, her peers could mount no fight as she registered a geared-down 1:48 win in the $305,000 Roses Are Red Stakes at Woodbine Mohawk Park on the mid-June, stakes-filled Saturday night.

Dunn floated Twin B Joe Fresh out of post four into fourth and sat unhurried through a :26.2 first quarter cut by Tells On A Roll (Travis Cullen).

But as Silver Label (Scott Zeron) popped pocket and Always B Naughty (Louis Philippe-Roy) followed overland out of third, Dunn tipped Twin B Joe Fresh into the flow up the backside and exited the shuffle on the point after a :54.2 half.

Twin B Joe Fresh stayed on the throttle through the final turn under no encouragement from Dunn and clicked by three-quarters in 1:21.2 before lifting flight for home.

Opening several lengths in the sprint for the finish, Dunn coasted to the line in parallel with the ground, keeping Twin B Joe Fresh under a grip to a 1-1/4-length win. Reigning Horse of the Year Sylvia Hanover (Bob McClure) surged from a first-over trip in the back half to take second with Always B Naughty settling for third and Tells On A Roll taking fourth over Silver Label.

Twin B Joe Fresh's career-best winning time of 1:48 just missed the stakes, track and Canadian record.

“She’s such an easy mare to drive, so we just got away in a good spot,” said Dunn in a post-race interview. “Once Sylvia [Hanover] got on my back I thought to follow Louis [Roy and Always B Naughty] to the front; I didn’t want to give Sylvia a tow up. She just felt great. She cruised down the lane pretty strong tonight.”

“The horse does the talking,” said trainer Chris Ryder. “She’s just a powerhouse, she’s got natural speed and she can carry it. I’m just lucky to have her. I came across her and got her, and all the credit goes to her. She’s just got the goods.”

Ryder and Dunn co-own the four-year-old Roll With Joe-Fresh Breeze mare with partners Peter Trebotica of Bordentown, N.J., and Barry Spak of Thornton, Pa.

Twin B Joe Fresh notched her third consecutive wins from four starts this season and the $1.69 million earner now has 22 victories from 31 starts in her career.

She paid $3.10 to win.

Fields Set For Goodtimes, Roses Are Red Stakes

Elimination weekend at Woodbine Mohawk Park kicked off on Friday, June 7 to determine the fields for the Goodtimes and Roses Are Red stakes.

A pair of eliminations were required for both events, with the Goodtimes for three-year-old trotters battling for $30,000 per elimination and the Roses Are Red for pacing mares at $35,000 a piece.

Top Mast powered up to win a three-horse photo in the first Goodtimes elimination.

Driven by Sylvain Filion for trainer Desiree Jones, Top Mast showed early speed and sat third throughout. Shermont (Trevor Henry) made the lead at the quarter, posting clips of :27.3, :56 and 1:24.3. Pick Pocket (James MacDonald) sat right behind for a two-hole trip.

In the stretch, the three leaders squared off right down to the wire, with Top Mast reaching up to win by a head over Pick Pocket and a neck over Shermont in 1:53.4. Goober Smack (Tyler Borth) finished fourth, while Finite (Louis-Philippe Roy) was fifth to make the final.

“I [thought] I’m just going to stay here [in third] and see what happens,” said Filion about the trip. “Eventually, it worked out for us. It goes to say you need luck to win big races. I knew the two front horses were battling hard and I was just staying covered up as long as I could and when I moved him and pulled the plugs, he went on.”

Top Mast is now one-for-two to launch his three-year-old season for owner Gino Toscani. The son of Walner won three of 10 starts at age two, banking more than $150,000. The victory in 1:53.4 was a new lifetime best.

Top Mast returned $16.90 to win for the 7-1 upset.

The much-hyped Highland Kismet lived up the noise by scoring a comfortable 1:54 win in the second Goodtimes elimination.

Driver Bob McClure took his time with Highland Kismet in a short field by getting away fifth and making a first-up march around the far turn. The race fractions were clocked in :29, :58.1 and 1:26.1 to three-quarters. The heavy favourite got up to leader Winter Soldier (Dexter Dunn) at the head of the lane and trotted away for the victory.

Private Access (Louis-Philippe Roy) followed the winner with a good kicker to finish second, beat a length and three-quarters. Winter Soldier settled for third, while Griff (James MacDonald) and Myretirementdream (Jody Jamieson) completed the top five.

Trained by Mark Etsell, Highland Kismet is now three-for-four to begin his career and has impressed many.

“This horse can give you a lot of confidence,” said McClure. “When I moved him over tonight, it was just hang on and go. He puts his head down and takes off on you. He wants to win. He wants to chase them down.”

A son of Father Patrick, Highland Kismet is a homebred for Highland Thoroughbred Farm and has now made $37,000.

He paid $3.30 to win.

Twin B Joe Fresh kicked off the Roses Are Red eliminations with a blowout victory for driver Dexter Dunn and trainer Chris Ryder.

Making her third start as a four-year-old, Twin B Joe Fresh got away fourth and was on the move early after a :27 opening quarter.

Prohibition Legal (Louis-Philippe Roy) moved from third and was stretched a bit by Grace Hill (Doug McNair) to the half in :54.2.

Twin B Joe Fresh wasted little time overtaking the new leader entering the far turn and opened up a few lengths of separation at three-quarters in 1:21.4.

In the stretch drive, a wrapped up Twin B Joe Fresh cruised to a 4-1/4-length triumph in 1:50.4. Three-time O'Brien Award winner So Much More (James MacDonald) stayed to the pylons after getting away seventh and finished second. Tells On A Roll (Travis Cullen) rallied from sixth to finish third. Valar Dohaeris (Jody Jamieson) and Grace Hill got through some traffic to round out the top five, as Prohibition Legal came to a walk and backed up to finish outside the final.

A daughter of Roll With Joe, Twin B Joe Fresh has returned in fine form to begin taking on older foes.

“She’s so relaxed, you can do anything you want with her,” said Dunn. “When I saw 1:21.4 pop up, I was sort of trying to make sure I didn’t get up the home straight too quick on her. She was doing it really good and I’m really pleased with her.”

Dunn shares ownership of Twin B Joe Fresh with Ryder, Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak. She’s now a 21-time winner and has made more than $1.5 million in her outstanding career.

Coming off a 1:48.2 stakes and track record performance in the Betsy Ross at Harrah's Philadelphia on May 26, Twin B Joe Fresh paid $2.10 to win as the overwhelming favourite.

Always B Naughty made a loud statement in the second elimination, posting a 1:49.3 front-end score.

Driven by Louis-Philippe Roy, Always B Naughty surged out and kept Silver Label (Doug McNair) to the outside through a wicked :25.3 opening quarter. Silver Label took back into second and followed Always B Naughty through fractions of :54.3 and 1:22.2.

In the stretch, Always B Naughty closed things out with a powerful :27.1 kicker to win by a length and three-quarters. Reigning Horse of the Year and fan favourite Sylvia Hanover (Bob McClure) went first-up to finish second, while Kobes Gigi (Sylvain Filion), Talk Curdy To Me (Dexter Dunn) and Silver Label completed the top five.

Trained by Nancy Takter, Always B Naughty was just one-for-five this season entering Friday's action, but had finished second in her last two starts, including the Kentucky Sires Stakes final and the big Betsy Ross mile.

“Nancy texted me earlier today and said she’s a pretty honest mare and you can use her a couple times as long as you get her a breather at some point,” said Roy. “I knew with the short field, once we were going to get into position anyone was going to risk their spot in the elim by trying to move.”

A four-year-old daughter of Always B Miki, Always B Naughty is now an 11-time winner with nearly $550,000 earned for owners Let It Ride Stable, Odds On Racing, R B H Ventures and Takter.

Always B Naughty paid $7.20 to win as the 5-2 third choice.

Elimination winners again earned a starting spot from post two through six with their victories. Below is the draw for the $305,000 Roses Are Red final on June 15.

Twin B Tuffenuff Dwarfs Monday Foes

With a fresh driver in the seat, there was no stopping Twin B Tuffenuff in the St. Peters Volunteer Fire Department Pace on a rescheduled Monday (Sept. 18) evening card at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The program was originally scheduled for Saturday evening but was rescheduled due to Hurricane Lee hitting the region on the weekend. The move in dates conflicted with travel schedules for Twin B Tuffenuff’s regular driver Gilles Barrieau, but with top Atlantic Canadian reinsman Corey MacPherson not originally scheduled to drive on the night as he was committed to stakes races in Cape Breton on Saturday, it left the Cornwall, P.E.I. driver available to pick up the majority of Barrieau’s mounts.

One of those drives was in the $3,800 Preferred Pace with Twin B Tuffenuff and MacPherson took advance as he pointed the favourite to the lead and never looked back through splits of :28.1, :57, 1:25.2 and 1:52.2 by open lengths. Stash It Away (Ken Murphy) was in hot pursuit in second ahead of Century Invictus (Jason Hughes).

The David Dowling barn was strong on the evening with two wins including in the $3,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace with Tobins Brownie in 1:54.4. Middleton Terror was another Dowling winner as he stopped the clock in 1:56.3 in race three.

Trainer-driver Hughes made a pair of trips to the winner’s circle from his Charlottetown barn. ‘The Blue Knight’ steered Tobins Barn Party to a 1:59.4 maiden-breaking score in race two then came back later in the card to win with Spicey P in 1:56.1.

Ken Murphy had three winners on the night as he steered his father Clifford Murphy’s trainees The Mad Dragon (1:56.4) and Redwhiteandboots (1:57.3) to victory along with the Gary Poulton trained Zaidans Luck in a 1:57.2 mile.

Twin B Joe Fresh Strikes In KYSS

Twin B Joe Fresh is harness racing’s newest MILLIONAIRE!!

We couldn’t be more proud of this filly, who stormed home in a wicked 24.3 final quarter to win her KYSS Championship Series event for Chris Ryder, Dexter Dunn & connection, pushing her earnings to $1,019,439. Congratulations to everyone involved in this special filly.

Twin B Joe Fresh engaged in a vicious battle with nemesis Strong Poison for a 1:49.1 triumph in an $80,000 division of the Kentucky Championship Series for three-year-old pacing fillies on Sunday (Sept. 10) at The Red Mile, collecting her fifth consecutive win and becoming the sport’s newest millionaire. Hambletonian victor Tactical Approach rebounded off a second-place finish in his last appearance in the series for sophomore male trotters with a 1:51.2 victory.

Defending Kentucky champion Twin B Joe Fresh (Dexter Dunn) engaged in another tremendous battle in the lane to defeat familiar foe Strong Poison (Yannick Gingras) by three-quarters of a length. The daughter of Roll With Joe-Fresh Breeze has not lost since a second-place finish to Dan Patch and O’Brien Award winner Sylvia Hanover in the $169,000 Mistletoe Shalee at The Meadowlands on July 15.

Charleston (Tim Tetrick) assumed command as the mile commenced from post position three while Dunn and his filly settled in fourth from post position two. Strong Poison also allowed Charleston to lead the field of six through splits of :27.4, :56.2 and 1:24 before the battle was on.

Charleston remained in front by a head in the drive for the wire, but Twin B Joe Fresh and Strong Poison were in hot pursuit.

Despite throwing down a :25.2 final quarter fraction, Charleston could not hold off the sizzling :24.3 and :24.4 advances of Twin B Joe Fresh and Strong Poison, respectively.

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Twin B Joe Fresh picked up her third win in a row, capturing Saturday’s (Aug. 19) $250,000 James M. Lynch Memorial for 3-year-old female pacers by two lengths over Charleston in 1:49.4 at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania. Sweet Amira finished third in the race, which saw co-favorite Sylvia Hanover go off stride on the final turn as her 13-race victory streak came to an end.

Twin B Joe Fresh, who shared 4-5 odds with Sylvia Hanover, and driver Dexter Dunn went to the front from post four and reached the opening quarter in :27.2. Sylvia Hanover, who was fourth, launched a first-over bid with five-eighths of a mile to go and pulled even with Twin B Joe Fresh as the pair raced down the backstretch following a half in :56.2.

The battle continued into the final turn, but Sylvia Hanover’s miscue left Twin B Joe Fresh alone on the front. Shawn Steacy, who trains Sylvia Hanover with his father, Mark, said the horse touched a knee in the last turn, which he believes led to her making the break.

Twin B Joe Fresh fended off Charleston from there for her fifth triumph in eight races this season.

“We had a good draw and we wanted to use it,” Dunn said. “She’s such a versatile filly. You can get her out of the gate, and she will do whatever you want her to do. We did get a good breather (in the second quarter). She came back to me nicely.

“Obviously, we had Sylvia bearing down our back down the backstretch. I guess it was a little lucky for us she made a break, but my filly was still traveling great at the time. She’s a powerful girl and she knows her job. It’s a great win for her and the team.”

Twin B Joe Fresh is a daughter of Roll With Joe-Fresh Breeze owned by trainer Chris Ryder, Dunn, Peter Trebotica, and Barry Spak. The Brittany Farms-bred filly has won 13 of 18 career races and earned $911,748.

“It’s always different when you own them, especially with Chris and Pete and the team,” Dunn said. “It’s very special.”

The victory was Ryder’s third in the Lynch. He won in 2019 with Stonebridge Soul and in 2013 with I Luv The Nitelife.

Twin B Joe Fresh paid $3.80 to win.

Front Page Story won the $125,000 Lynch Consolation I in 1:50.2. High Fashion Star finished second and Racin Hungry was third. Front Page Story was driven by Tim Tetrick for trainer Mark Steacy and owner Hudson Standardbred Stable. The White Birch Farm-bred daughter of Captaintreacherous-Wenditions has won three of 11 races this year and three of 19 lifetime, banking $144,492.

The winner of the $75,000 Lynch Consolation II was Mollop Hanover in 1:51.1. Lisa Lane was second and Treacherous Penny third. On Tuesday (Aug. 8), Red Mile hosted one $80,000 second round division of the Kentucky Sire Stakes, one $30,000 second round division of the Kentucky Commonwealth Series and two $15,000 second round divisions of the Kentucky Golden Rod Series for sophomore filly pacers.

Defending Kentucky Sire Stakes champion Twin B Joe Fresh and pilot Dexter Dunn used a :25.4 last panel to outlast familiar rival Strong Poison and Yannick Gingras in a lifetime best 1:48.2.

The daughter of Roll With Joe and her driver were content to settle in fourth after beginning the mile from post position seven. Always B Naughty (David Miller) established fractions of :27.1, :54.4 and 1:22.1 with Strong Poison tracking in second after drawing the rail. Twin B Joe Fresh, who nearly equalled Warrawee Ubeaut’s world record (1:48.3) for a freshman filly pacer over this same surface last year (1:48.4), overhauled Always B Naughty entering the stretch and paced strongly to the wire to hold Strong Poison at bay. Twin B Joe Fresh paid $2.70 to win. Strong Poison finished second and Cultured (Scott Zeron) took the show spot.

Trained by Chris Ryder, Twin B Joe Fresh is co-owned by her trainer, her driver and Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak. The $65,000 2021 Standardbred Horse Sale purchase was bred by Brittany Farms. The filly boosted her bankroll to $802,009 and improved her lifetime record to 12-3-1 in 17 starts. Twin B Joe Fresh is also the defending New York Sire Stakes champion. Twin B Tuffenuff Mows Down Red Shores Preferred

Charging hard at the end of the mile, Twin B Tuffenuff powered up to win the Monday (Aug. 7) evening Preferred Pace on a rescheduled program at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

In the $3,800 Preferred Pace, race favourite Bee Two Bee (Jason Hughes) rushed off the gate to secure the lead and held down front-end splits of :27, :55.1 and 1:23.1. Twin B Tuffenuff sat third for the majority of the mile and angled out up the backside to get around pocket-sitter YS Mathis (Corey MacPherson) then duck into the two-hole behind Bee Two Bee. Barrieau then powered up in the stretch drive to win in 1:51.2 at 10-1 odds in preparation for the upcoming trials of the $100,000 Gold Cup and Saucer, presented by Atlantic Lottery. Bee Two Bee was second while Roll Em (Marc Campbell) closed up to finish third.

On the heels of hitting the 3,000 career-win mark in New Brunswick last week, Marc Campbell returned to his home track and scored a driving triple on the evening. Campbell clicked with Chikaboom (1:54.4) from his own barn as well as the Melissa Rennie-trained pair of Rose Run Quest (1:53.4) and Revenant (1:53.4).

Trainer Earl Watts doubled out of Windemere Farms in Springvale, P.E.I., as Starship Glyde (David Dowling) won the opener in 1:56.4 then Fern Hill Hero scored a 22-1 upset in race three in line to Patrick Shepherd.

The finalists for the Pepsi North America Cup's counterpart, the $420,000 Fan Hanover, now have their spots determined following two $35,000 eliminations on Saturday night (June 10) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Twin B Joe Fresh took the first $35,000 Fan Hanover elim in wire-to-wire fashion for co-owner Dexter Dunn. The Roll With Joe daughter put up fractions of :27.2, :55.1, 1:21.4 and held on to win in 1:49.

Cultured closed well to take second with Zanatta, Lyons Bettorday and One Last Wish also qualifying for next week’s final.

“She had a great two-year-old year [winning $598,000], all the credit goes to Chris. She’s been fun so far,” said Dunn, who co-owns Twin B Joe Fresh with trainer Chris Ryder, Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak.

In the second elimination, Beach Cowgirl was at the opening quarter in :26.3. Up to challenge before the :56 half was Sylvia Hanover, who was at the leader’s halter by the 1:22.3 third quarter. Sylvia Hanover drew clear down the lane for Bob McClure to win in 1:49.2, a new life best.

Beach Cowgirl, Charleston, Ucandoit Blue Chip and Vivians Dream also advanced for a spot in next week’s final.

A daughter of Always B Miki trained by Shawn Steacy for Hudons Standardbreds Inc., Sylvia Hanover (pictured above) is now two-for-two this year following a 8-1-0 debut season from nine starts.

“She was towing me, she wanted to get at it pretty good, I was trying to rate her. She’s been off a little while I figured she’d be short but she's straight to the wire, strong. Every time you think she’s going to have an off night, she comes through with a bigger night. I count my blessings every week I get to hold the lines on her,” said McClure, who noted the filly is far better with a target.

“I was holding my breath, she saw a lot of air, for any horse to keep going forward the way she did that’s very impressive,” added Steacy. “She’s an incredible horse.”

Favorites provided their supporters with winning tickets but there were plenty of surprises on the 10-race card.

Twin B Joe Fresh and Dexter Dunn sailed by Strong Poison to record collect her second state championship in 1:49.2. Zanatta was third.

Strong Poison took control from the start and paced splits of :28, :55 and 1:22.2 while Twin B Joe Fresh sat in fourth until she was given her cue by Dunn traveling to the finish line. He pulled and she responded to place herself in second for the last quarter mile. The daughter of Roll With Joe-Fresh Breeze turned it on and came home in :26.1.

Twin B Tuffenuff fought off No Plan Intended to win the $10,000 Johnny Conroy Memorial on Friday night (Sept. 9) as those two Invitational pacers took off from the rest of the field in Truro Raceway's fastest mile.

Driven by Gilles Barrieau for trainer Ron Matheson, Twin B Tuffenuff won his Truro debut in 1:50.4, knocking four-fifths of a second off the all-age track record set by Time To Dance in July 2021.

American Risk (Todd Trites) got the first call leaving from post six in the featured finale and opened up a quick three-length lead rounding the first turn. However, 7-5 favourite Twin B Tuffenuff caught up quickly from the inside post and swept by as they hit the quarter in 27 seconds.

Twin B Tuffenuff raced on to the half in :54.4 with a two-length lead over American Risk, with Rotten Ronnie (Redmond Doucet) tucking into third after being parked out early on. Meanwhile, No Plan Intended (David Dowling) launched his attack from the backfield and marched first-up to engage Twin B Tuffenuff down the backstretch.

Those two began to gain separation from the rest of the field battling out front past three-quarters in 1:23 and it turned into a two-horse race in the stretch, where Twin B Tuffenuff toughed it out to win by one length over No Plan Intended. American Risk held on for third over trailing tier starter Time To Dance (Marc Campbell) and Rotten Ronnie, finishing more than 10 lengths behind.

Twin B Tuffenuff notched his fifth win of the season from 22 starts and now has 27 victories lifetime with nearly $620,000 banked in purses.

The seven-year-old son of Rock N Roll Heaven-In The Pink, who won the Gold Cup & Saucer Consolation two starts back (pictured above), was acquired by Patrick Morris of Charlottetown, P.E.I. in May.

He paid $4.80 to win.

On Friday's undercard, Rusty Riley prevailed by a neck in the $2,500 Winners Over Pace, equalling his lifetime mark of 1:54.1 at the age of 11 for trainer/driver Paul Langille. A 39-time winner, the Blissfull Hall gelding shot up the passing lane and bested Privilege (Doucet), Well Did (Barreau) and Mantario (Dowling) in a four-across finish for the 10-1 upset. He is owned by Chantel Langille of Truro, N.S., and Dana Getto of New Waterford, N.S.

Twin B Archie Takes Simcoe

Twin B Archie managed to hold off a fast-closing Duly Resolved to take the $165,725 Simcoe Stakes for three-year-old trotting colts on Saturday night (Sept. 3) at Woodbine Mohawk Park. The race, contested by just five talented sophomores, kicked off a stakes laden card anchored by the legendary Canadian Pacing Derby and Maple Leaf Trot.

Last year’s O’Brien Award winner Duly Resolved and Paul MacDonell got away well from post five to quickly reach the front as the race got underway, but he was covered up by Safe Conduct and Chris Christoforou well before the opening quarter reached in :27.3. Favourite Twin B Archie was sent to the top from third and was well settled on the lead by the half reached in :56.4.

With usual pilot James MacDonald in the bike, Twin B Archie trotted by the three-quarters in 1:25.1 looking strong but he had some competition late in the mile as Duly Resolved was closing hard as was Safe Conduct. Twin B Archie managed to hold on and hit the wire first in 1:53.2, a half length in front of Duly Resolved in second and Safe Conduct in third. Archery Seelster grabbed fourth while Chulo collected fifth despite making a break down the lane.

A son of Archangel, Twin B Archie put his 2022 summary at 6-3-0 in 10 starts and upped his earnings to $456,415. Career wise, he’s earned over $740,000 for trainer Scott McEneny, who co-owns with Domenic Chiaravalle, Floyd Marshall and the Martwest Racing Stable, all of Ontario.

MacDonald noted after the race he was happy to see the draw with just five entered.

“The horse has been racing great, all career he’s been terrific, so when you see a short field going for that much money you definitely get a little excited. He got it all again tonight, he knows where the wire is and he knows how to get it done.”

The trip went the way the driver envisioned.

“I thought Chris [on Safe Conduct] would take a shot, I was a little worried about him on my back the last turn, but Archie finds a way every time.”

Four of the colts in tonight’s contest were Ontario-sired, including Twin B Archie. MacDonald feels he can certainly hold his own with the Grand Circuit calibre colts later this year.

“Early in the year he was so good, I would have put him up against anyone. After Ottawa [an OSS win at Rideau Carleton on July 10], he’s been a little stale but still the results have been there so it’s hard to knock him. I hope when the big ones come at the end of the year he can still figure it out.”

Three $17,500 divisions of sophomore colt pacers took to the track for the fourth leg of the Buckeye Stallion Series on Friday (Sept. 2) at Eldorado Scioto Downs.

In the first and fastest division, Brett Miller guided Pearl Snaps to his 10th seasonal victory in 1:51.4. Leaving from post one, the gelded son of Fear The Dragon refused to be put into the pocket by 15-1 Rock The Dragon. Pearl Snaps gained control of the field as soon as the dust settled and never looked back. With a :27.2 final quarter, 1-5 favorite Pearl Snaps bested Art Of Revenge (Tony Hall) by a neck while Rock The Dragon (Tyler Smith) held on for third.

Pearl Snaps has dominated mid-tier racing in 2022, winning three of four Buckeye Stallion Series legs for trainer Virgil Morgan Jr. Despite being lightly raced at two, the gelding now boasts $123,950 in just 16 lifetime starts. Pearl Snaps is owned in partnership by his conditioner alongside Carl Howard and Bottom Line Racing.

Twin B Tuffenuff Conquers MacGregor Memorial

With a final lunge at the wire, Twin B Tuffenuff got up to win the James (Roach) MacGregor Gold Cup and Saucer Consolation, presented by The Guardian, Friday evening (Aug. 19) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park during Old Home Week.

In the $20,000 MacGregor Consolation, the entire field got away in a program order start as Cadillac Bayama (David Dowling) guarded the rail and set down all the fractions while post two starter Legion Seelster (Jimmy Gagnon) got away second and Twin B Tuffenuff watched the action from third in line to Kenny Arsenault. The quarter was hit in :27.1 followed by a :54.2 half-mile station with no movement, then when the backfield came calling, Arsenault committed his charge first-over heading to three-quarters in 1:22.3. Twin B Tuffenuff slowly advanced on the outside in the final stanza and surged at the finish to win by a nose in 1:51.1 over Cadillac Bayama with Legion Seelster third.

The 1:51.1 victory was the fastest career win for 62-year-old driver Arsenault, a winner of more than 3,300 races lifetime.

Pat Morris of Charlottetown owns 26-time winning pacer, who is a seven-year-old son of Rock N Roll Heaven, while Ron Matheson handles the training duties.

The $16,600 Gold divisions of the Lady Slipper Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies were won by Therealprincess (Corey MacPherson) in 1:56.2 for trainer Eddy Doucette and Cougar On A Terr (Danny Gillis) in 1:55.1 from the Walter Walker barn. Therealprincess remains undefeated this season in eight starts.

The $8,300 Lady Slipper Grassroots races for sophomore fillies were won by Cantstopthelovin (Dowling) in 1:55.3, T Ls Betty (Adam Merner) in 1:58, Kinda Like Royalty (Dale Spence) in 1:56 and Roses For Jennie (Jason Hughes) in 1:57.2.

The Old Home Week Invitational, sponsored by Dr. John Hennessey, saw the fastest opening quarter in the history of the Charlottetown Driving Park as Island Beach Boy (Mark Bradley) hit the first station in 26 seconds flat. Beachin Lindy would sit last and circle the field to win the $6,000 dash in 1:52.1 for owner, trainer and driver Stephen Charlton of Ontario.

It will be an Old Home Week to remember for Morgan Sheppard, who scored her first career training win in the second race with four-year-old pacing gelding Shakemeup Hanover ($7.80), owned and driven by Colin Sheppard. The 21-year-old Brackley Beach, P.E.I. trainer made it to the winner's circle in just her 10th start.

Live harness racing continues with a double-header program Saturday with post times at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. The evening card will be capped off by the $100,000 Gold Cup and Saucer presented by Atlantic Lottery.

Finding Value In Harrisburg

Nowhere on the planet are there more horse stories generated than in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and that came to light again this past weekend.

Twin B Joe Fresh won an $80,000 leg of the Kentucky Championship Series at the Red Mile on Sunday. The time was 1:48.4…not bad for a two-year-old pacing filly (a fifth of a second off the speed record) but the back story on this goes to Thursday, November 7, 2019 late in the day at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show Complex.

Hip #1250 was an unraced three-year-old daughter of Captain Treacherous selling in foal to Roll With Joe. Nothing special and appeared to be a victim of the annual purging Brittany Farms does each year.

Enter Twinbrook Farms. The Rob/Tammy McNiven family was looking to add to its broodmare bank back in Embro, Ontario. Farm manager/daughter Jenna tells the tale best.

“We actually did have her marked and while her first dam was a bit of a turnoff in terms of production it was the Three Diamonds family and she was a Captain Treacherous. But there was another mare in the sale, a Western Ideal filly we liked and were really taken with. My Dad and I have a habit of falling in love with horses”, she notes.

“Anyway we separated and I was walking by the Preferred Equine consignment when Fresh Breeze was out getting ready for the ring. In fact, she was the next one to go and she just stopped me in my tracks with her looks. She was a beauty. I quickly called my parents and they came right over where we had a super quick discussion. Our goal was not in foal mares but Dad agreed she had the looks and put one maybe two bids and we had her for US $21,000”.

She explained the farm simply does not have the firepower to pursue to high powered breeding prospects so they are not afraid to pursue unarmed fillies a strategy some people dismiss.

”Right away we were happy with the price and then we had a few people comment to us that they though she was a very good buy. That aside at $21,000 if it did not work out we were not going to get hurt too badly so we were very pleased”.

The fact the mare was in foal to Roll With Joe was not the silver lining in the haystack so to speak. That sire has had very modest success and the family figured a resulting foal might bring $20,000-$30,000. But it was the future offspring that they believed offered the most potential.

“Later on we did call Brittany Farms and ask about her. What we got is that she just wasn’t very athletic looking and I’m not even sure if they tried racing her. She does have a problem with her stifles locking which came to light when she foaled and had trouble getting up”.

When Joe Fresh was born the family was quite happy with the result. Jenna termed her a nice foal that grew into a big, wide yearling. In fact she has evolved into a big power filly.

“She got very little attention from Ontario buyers because she was New York sired but at the sale there was a bit of a buzz about her with the right people looking. We began to think she now qualified as a really, nice individual that would go beyond our expected figure of $30,000”.

At $65,000 the buyer was New Jersey horseman Chris Ryder who many believe to be the most underrated selector of yearlings in the game.

“As far as we were concerned that was a huge plus because we love the way Chris manages his horses. My Mom regularly spoke with Chris’ wife and in the winter there was even an inquiry about us selling the mare but that was not in the cards. We had her Bettors Delight three-quarter sister which we will sell in Harrisburg this year and knew we had something here”.

Twin B Joe Fresh has over $100,000 to date from just five starts and now ranks among the top fillies in the game. Fast times do not impress this writer but class does and this filly looks the part. The only chance she will race in Canada could be the Breeders Crown the end of October at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

The farm owns a share of Bettors Delight and used that a second time with Fresh Breeze who now has a Bettors Delight colt at side. She is in foal to Perfect Sting.

“It’s all a little bit like the Bulldog Hanover story. Why Fresh Breeze was largely ignored no one knows. Could we get that lucky again? I’d hate to bet on it. What are the odds that I would be walking by just when she was getting ready to go in the ring? Those are stories you just cannot make up”.

As long as racing has existed the one constant has been people’s constant lament about trying to find value for money when it comes to finding horses. Whether it be yearling buyer, racehorse owner or breeder it is a familiar whine. No one is saying it is easy but every year people do it.

Twinbrook Farms did it in this instance as did trainer Jack Darling with the purchase of Bulldog Hanover one day earlier. Value is out there for sure but one has to find it.

Twin B Joe Fresh headlined a stakes-filled Sunday afternoon (Aug. 14) at The Red Mile with wins in the second leg of the Kentucky Championship Series.

In the $80,000 second round of the series for freshman pacing fillies, 6-5 favourite Twin B Joe Fresh launched from the pocket turning for home to retake the lead and drew off by 6-1/4 lengths to a stunning 1:48.4 score, coming within one-fifth of a second of the world record for two-year-olds with :26.1 final quarter speed.

Driver Dexter Dunn and trainer Chris Ryder co-own the Roll With Joe-Fresh Breeze filly, who is now four-for-five lifetime and surpassed the $100,000 earnings mark, with Peter Trebotica of New Jersey and Barry Spak of Pennsylvania.

Strong Poison closed from off the pace to place over Caviart Marcella and Cultured, who had swept from third to first after a :28.1 opener and set middle fractions of :55 and 1:22.2 during the race.

After sweeping the Championship events, Dunn drove Tony Alagna trainee More Than Ever to a 1:52.2 career-best victory in the $30,000 second leg the Kentucky Commonwealth Series for three-year-old trotting fillies.

Driver David Miller swept a pair of $30,000 Commonwealth divisions for two-year-old pacing fillies with Jenn Bongiorno trainee Zanatta (Stay Hungry-Major Dancer) in 1:51 and Hungry For Love (Stay Hungry-Lover Of Art) in 1:51.2 for trainer Ron Burke.

A Rocknroll Hanover rookie filly Caris, the first foal out of two-time O'Brien Award winner L A Delight, scored a maiden-breaking victory in 1:51.2 by a head over favourite Sugar Britches in a $15,000 Golden Rod Series division with Yannick Gingras driving for Takter and Diamond Creek Racing.

Gingras also won with two-year-old pacing filly Ravenous (1:52.2) and three-year-old trotting fillies Saffron Girl (1:53.1) and Moni Heist (1:53.1) in the Golden Rod Series. David Miller and Soft Spot (1:52.3) took the other freshman filly pace while John MacDonald guided Blue Bayou Deo (1:52.2) to victory in the other sophomore filly trot.

Twin B Jammer turned a two-hole trip into a 1:52.3 triumph in the second division for the tandem of driver Louis-Philippe Roy and trainer Francis Dumouchel.

The gelding left hard from Post 7 and dropped into the garden spot behind Sip Of Bourbon who carved out fractions of :28, :56.4 and 1:24.4. Twin B Jammer popped out the pocket in the lane and fired home in :27.3 to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Called In Sick. Sip Of Bourbon wound up third.

It was the second win of the season for the son of Sunshine Beach-Twin B Bikini who is owned by Dumouchel, Ecurie CSL, 9174 7998 and O A S 2021. The victory improved his seasonal record to 2-2-4 from 13 trips postward. He’s banked over $50,000 to date.

Twin B Archie Grabs More Gold

The trip was sweet and the end result was even sweeter for Twin B Archie who powered to another Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series triumph Monday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

The 2021 O'Brien Award finalist rode a second over trip to paydirt for the tandem of driver James MacDonald and trainer Scott McEneny.

Twin B Archie was in no hurry early as MacDonald got away fifth with the favourite. Simcoe Seelster, in the meantime, charge to the top at long odds and laid down sensible fractions of :27.1, :57.1 and 1:26.3.

Safe Conduct edged first over on the way to the half, and MacDonald nabbed second over cover at that point with Twin B Archie. Safe Conduct worked to the top in the lane, but Twin B Archie’s :27.4 closing speed was just too much for that one to handle. Twin B Archie prevailed by three-quarters of a length over Safe Conduct in 1:55. Unevergonnagethis was third.

McEneny shares ownership on the son of Archangel-Affair Hall with Domenic Chiaravalle, Floyd Marshall and Martwest Racing Stable. The victory improved his 2022 record to 5-2-0 from eight starts while his lifetime record went to 9-5-1 from 18 tries. His career bankroll now stands at a staggering $614,591.

Pearl Snap Continues 7 Race Win Streak in Buckeye Stallion Series

Grove City, OH — Sophomore colt and gelding pacers took to the Flying Turns of MGM Northfield Park Sunday night (July 24) for the third leg in the Buckeye Stallion Series with Fluff Yeahh and Pearl Snaps picking up their second wins in the series.

In the first of five $17,500 divisions, Fluff Yeahh and Tony Hall set a new lifetime mark of 1:51.3, winning by 1-1/4 lengths. Hall took the pocket trip with the Pet Rock gelding, swinging wide around the final turn and catching the leader down the stretch. Bret Schwartz trains Fluff Yeahh, who won for the third time this year, raising his earnings this year to $45,500.

The other repeat winner came in the final division as Pearl Snaps and Brett Miller grabbed the lead at the half-mile mark and cruised to the win in 1:52.4. Virgil Morgan Jr. trains the son of Fear The Dragon. Pearl Snaps has won nine of 11 this year, earning $74,500.

Hall picked up his second of three Buckeye Stallion Series wins in the second division as Velocity Chaps fought off Mach Out Knockout down the stretch to win by a half-length in 1:52, a new lifetime mark. Brian Brown trains the Well Said colt who picked up his first win of the season and pushed his lifetime earnings to $103,089.

Hall made it three in a row in the BSS in the third division as he piloted Art Of Revenge to his fourth win in nine starts for trainer Mark Winters Jr. The son of Art Official hung on at the wire to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:51.4. Art Of Revenge raised his earnings to $38,200 this year.

Willydoitagain and Ronnie Wrenn Jr. made it look easy, winning for the first time this year in a lifetime mark of 1:52.1. The Domethatagain gelding went three-wide to grab the lead at the quarter pole and went on to win by 2-1/4 lengths. The Dan O’Mara trainee has now earned $22,349 this year.

Buckeye Stallion Series action resumes Tuesday (July 26) at Eldorado Scioto Downs as six divisions of 2-year-old filly pacers compete in the second leg. First race post time is 3:15 p.m.

Off to a perfect start in her career, two-year-old pacing filly Twin B Joe Fresh remain undefeated in the Friday, July 15 leg of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) at Tioga Downs.

Twin B Joe Fresh ($2.70) won the $54,500 NYSS first division in rein to Jason Bartlett.

Hunting Season (Tyler Buter) took the lead just before hitting the quarter first in :27 but Twin B Joe Fresh took control with a lap to go. She was first to the half in :56.2. Zira (Cory Braden) came first-up to challenge down the backstretch but Twin B Joe Fresh shook her off and led to three-quarters in 1:24.1. As the field made the turn for home, Twin B Joe Fresh had plenty in the tank and coasted to an easy win in 1:52.3.

Hunting Season was second best, finishing three lengths behind. Kissin Joe (Mike Merton) finished third.

Twin B Joe Fresh is a filly by Roll With Joe out of the Captaintreacherous mare Fresh Breeze. She is owned by trainer Chris Ryder, Dexter Dunn and Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak. The filly is now three-for-three in 2022 with previous wins in the Geers and NYSS.

Pearl Snaps Sweeps Adamsky Pacing Series

Twin B Archie Takes OSS Gold

Ontario Sires Stakes action made its season debut at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday (July 10) with Gold and Grassroots divisions for three-year-old trotting colts.

The $157,200 Gold division was the feature race of the evening, and James MacDonald capped off his four-win night by driving 4-5 favourite Twin B Archie to victory. MacDonald sent the Archangel son straight to the front from post eight, and he led gate to wire with fractions of :27.3, :57.2 and 1:25.4 to clock the mile in 1:54.1.

“He just gives you that perfect mix of versatility,” said MacDonald. “He can leave the gate like no other trotter, but if you want to take him back and trip him out because that’s what the race calls for, he likes that as well. He’s a really fun horse to drive.”

The win pushed the Scott McEneny trainee over $500,000 in career earnings for McEneny and his ownership partners Domenic Chiaravalle (Hamilton, Ont.), Floyd Marshall (Jarvis, Ont.), and Martwest Racing Stable (Mississauga, Ont.).

Jody Jamieson piloted Esplosione to a second-place finish, moving the Kadabara colt’s 2022 OSS Gold record to 1-1-0. The Meg Crone trainee is owned by Melvin Hartman (Ottawa, Ont.), and Enzed Racing Stable Inc (Allentown, NJ). Rounding the top-three was Century Invader with Scott Young driving for trainer Shawn Steacy. The Resolve colt now has over $70,000 in earnings for owners Landmark 14 (Lansdowne, Ont.), Hudson Standrdbrd Stb Inc (Hudson, Que.), David Reid (Sydenham Ont.)

Earlier in the evening, MacDonald won two of the three Grassroots divisions for sophomore trotters. His win with Chantal Mitchell trainee Armstead Cole in the third Grassroots division was popular with bettors, scoring as the 1-9 favourite. The defending Grassroots champion is owned by James Armitage and Dr. Roland Armitage from Dunrobin, Ont., Sheryl McDiarmid (Greely, Ont.), and Grant Watson (Ottawa, Ont.).

“Chantal said there was a big group here to watch him and she greatly underestimated how big it was,” said MacDonald. “It was a gigantic group in the winner’s circle.”

The son of Johnny William led gate to wire through splits of :29, :58.2 and 1:27.2 out of post five to win by four lengths in 1:56.

“He’s just a professional, and so easy to drive,” said MacDonald. “I haven’t seen the big closing kick yet because I haven’t needed it, but he settles on the front, and is a real gentlemen to drive. Really happy for the ownership group tonight, they were pretty pumped up for the win.”

The gelding now has over $92,000 in earnings and a career record of 6-1-3 from 15 starts.

MacDonald’s other Grassroots win came in Race 5 with Renegade Gypsy. He was settled into pocket position early by MacDonald after leaving strongly from post five, and a first-up move sent the Mario Baillargeon trainee to the front by the half. He was game the rest of the way, winning in 1:55.1.

“He raced really well. He has a ton of gate speed, so I used it,” said MacDonald. “A couple kept coming, and cleared, and I didn’t know how he was going to be first up. But as soon as he got to (Kipper Whipr Snipr) he kind of took off and cleared and was strong to the finish as well.”

The first Grassroots division was Race 4 on the card, and odds-on favourite Archery Seelster came away with the win.

Sylvain Filion had the Wheeling N Dealin son positioned third early on, but as the field passed the grandstand for the first time he charged to the front and was able to lead the rest of the way and win by two lengths.

Trainer Marcel Barrieau (Cambridge, Ont.), and Gestion Mastel Inc (Longueil, Que.) own the gelding.

NYSS Win For Twin B Joe Fresh

The Independence Day matinee featured two-year-old pacing fillies on Monday afternoon at Saratoga Casino Hotel, with three divisions of the New York Sire Stakes for freshman fillies each carrying a purse of $51,300.

Twin B Joe Fresh (sired by Roll With Joe) was the fastest of the two-year-olds on the card as the Chris Ryder trainee made her Sire Stakes debut a winning one in 1:54.3. Jason Bartlett piloted Twin B Joe Fresh who won her lifetime debut at the Meadowlands in June while taking part in Geers competition. On Monday, the Ryder-trained up-and-comer cruised to a decisive score to move her record to two-for-two. She was the public’s 1-9 betting favourite in her $51,300 division.

Vivians Dream (American Ideal) was also a repeat winner on Monday as the Cory Mumford-trained filly was impressive for the second straight try in NYSS competition. Wally Hennessey picked up the catch-drive behind Vivians Dream who scored impressively in her debut at Buffalo Raceway and had little difficulty repeating. The final time for both wins to kick off her freshman campaign was 1:54.4. She was the 2-5 public choice in the wagering in her Spa debut.

The only mild upset of the trio of stakes races went the way of Ray Schnittker’s Hunting Season (Huntsville) who went coast-to-coast at odds of 5-2. The freshman filly came to town off a win at Pocono Downs and handled the move to the half-mile track with ease on Monday as she went wire-to-wire with Mark Macdonald at the controls. Hunting Season stopped the timer in 1:55.1 in her first Sire Stakes score. The freshman paid $7.10 to win as her race’s second choice in the wagering.

Twin B Joe Fresh Wins Debut; Sportscasters In The Sulky

Twin B Joe Fresh sparkled in her career debut on Friday night (June 17) at The Meadowlands, taking the featured $47,975 Tompkins-Geers Stakes for two-year-old pacing fillies.

The daughter of Roll With Joe-Fresh Breeze worked out a perfect cover trip and closed well through the stretch before holding off Ucandoit Blue Chip by a neck in 1:52.2. Lioness By The Sea was third.

“She’s robust, like a lot of attractive ladies,” kidded winning trainer Chris Ryder. “She’s got the curves, is very muscular and is on the big side.”

Lioness By The Sea led the field past the quarter in :28.2, half in :57.1 and three-quarters in 1:25.2. At the five-eighths, Hungry For Love was first-over trying to cut into the leader’s edge while providing a live tow for Twin B Joe Fresh , who tipped off that cover mid-stretch before rallying to get the win.

The $65,000 purchase was a bit expensive for Ryder’s taste, but he went ahead and bought the horse nonetheless.

“The main appeal is the family, especially the mother, but Roll With Joe is a sneaky good sire. I did overpay. She should have cost $30,000, maybe $40,000, but sometimes you have to be aggressive.”

Ryder and Barry Spak, one of Ryder’s regular clients, along with winning driver Dexter Dunn and Ryder’s second trainer, Pete Trebotica, own the filly.

“We weren’t looking to race her hard. I was half-hearted about putting her in the race in the first place,” said Ryder. “But I knew she had a good motor.”

As the 6-1 third choice in the betting, Twin B Joe Fresh returned $15.80 to win. Stop The Show, the 3-5 favourite, never threatened and finished seventh in the nine-horse field.

“Twin B Joe Fresh isn’t eligible to a heckuva lot,” said Ryder. “Kentucky sires, New York sires and the Bluegrass. I think that’s good for her.”

Haarlow and Marino Win Meadowlands Sportscaster Charity Derbies

Eight New York sportscasters competed in two non-wagering harness races to benefit their selected charitable organization during the Friday program.

Rebecca Haarlow, sideline reporter on MSG for the NY Knicks, NBA on TNT and NBA TV, took the win in the first charity derby race of the night. Haarlow and driving partner Tim Tetrick made a tremendous stretch move “rallying past Marc Malusis as if he was standing still” to take home the win. Haarlow’s first-place finish gave her charity Rescue Dogs Rock $5,000.

“I’m thrilled to be able to help out Rescue Dogs Rock with this win,” said Haarlow upon her return to the winner’s circle. “This was a great night, a great experience, our family loved it.”

The second charity derby was won by SNY reporter Maria Marino and her driving partner Corey Callahan. She held off fellow competitor Pat Leonard of the NY Daily News to capture the $5,000 prize for her selected charity, the American Cancer Society.

Fellow competitors, former NY Jets wide receiver Quincy Enunwa (MDA), Marc Malusis of PIX11, SNY & WFAN (Make-A-Wish Foundation), Don La Greca of ESPN-NY “The Michael Kay Show” (Ronald McDonald House Charities), Wally Szczerbiak of MSG (Croatian American Charitable Foundation), and Pat Leonard of the NY Daily News (Golden Lights Foundation), each earned $1,000 for their charities.

Brandon Tierney of WFAN was scratched sick for tonight’s derby but Marc Malusis stepped in and drove in Tierney’s race, earning the St. Jude’s Research Hospital $1,000.

“I tried my best to win it for Tierney,” said Malusis in his post-race interview. “This is always a great night, my family loves coming out and visiting the paddock and rooting me on. Thank you to the Meadowlands for putting on this fun event for our great causes.”

In addition to the participating sportscasters, Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment would like to thank Mark Ford and Tony Alagna for assisting with the horses and sulkies for the event.

Brower Leads Battle of the Masterminds Tournament

Dave Brower had yet another big night in The Big M’s Battle of the Masterminds handicapping tournament, turning his mythical $500 bankroll into $1,090 in winning for the third time through the first five nights of the competition.

If patrons had followed all of Brower’s selections to this point, they would be showing a profit of $2,165.

The contest continues every night through August 5. On-track patrons who select the winning handicapper and then win a random drawing on a given night are eligible for the $10,000 grand prize.

Brower, Dave Little, Jessica Otten, Edison Hatter and Ken Warkentin will go at it every night through August 5. The grand prize winner will be chosen on Hambletonian Day, August 6.

With a carryover of $5,731 driving the machine, the 20-cent Pick-6 ended up with a total pool of $34,675. Those with winning tickets walked away with $1,460.46. Only one horse during the sequence went off at odds greater than 5-2. … Todd McCarthy, Andy McCarthy and Scott Zeron all recorded driving doubles. … Trainer of the Week Edwin Quevedo is gunning for a second straight trophy after schooling a pair to victory lane. Twin B Deluxe Tops Saratoga NYSS

Andrew Harris trainee Twin B Deluxe braved a final-turn first-over grind to land a 1:53 nose decision in taking the first of three $58,000 New York Sires Stakes (NYSS) events for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings on Sunday (June 12) at Saratoga Casino Hotel.

Settling in third through a :26.3 first quarter, driver Jason Bartlett kept Twin B Deluxe at the pegs into a :56 half before making his move into the backstretch. The American Ideal gelding blitzed pacesetter Huntanover into three-quarters in 1:24.1 and took over the lead spinning for home with Bounty Hunter in pursuit. Bounty Hunter pressed into Twin B Deluxe through the lane, the Twin B Deluxe held firm to the wire to snag a narrow victory. Michael Goldberg Racing LLC and A Harris Racing LLC owns the $7.10 winner.

Hazeville wired his competition in the second NYSS split. Scott Zeron sent the John McDermott pupil to the point and led through splits of :27.4, :57 and 1:25 before clocking a 1:53.2 win by a neck over Flip My Chip. The Huntsville gelding is owned by Jonathan Klee Racing, William Garofalo, Rosemarie Sienicki and Eric Taddeo and paid $7 to win.

Twin B Archie Romps In SBOA Final

The wait to race was worth it for Twin B Archie in Monday evening’s $121,600 SBOA Stakes Final for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Moved from Saturday to Monday due to a power outage, the sophomore trotting colts and geldings battled in the SBOA just prior to Monday evening’s program in a non-wagering event.

The likely favourite had wagering been offered, Twin B Archie took top spot in the second-quarter for driver James MacDonald and never looked back, posting fractions of :56.3 and 1:24.4, en route to a four-length score in 1:53.3.

“He’s always got separation the group, but he’s just kind of playing around,” said MacDonald of Twin B Archie. “I just let him keep idling along and he just does it. If there was a challenge or someone was coming, I think he had lots left.”

MacDonald continued his hot streak by steering the gelded son of Archangel to victory for trainer Scott McEneny. MacDonald also won Saturday’s SBOA Finals with fillies Adare Castle and Silver Label.

When asked about the start to his stakes season, MacDonald chuckled and replied, “it’s been pretty good.” The runner-up position in Monday’s event went to Esplosione, who rallied from sixth to pick off Duly Resolve. Sea Can crossed the wire fourth, while Tymal Tiggs completed the top-five.

Twin B Archie is now two for two this season and has already boosted his career numbers to six wins and $358,316 earned. Last year’s Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final champion is owned by McEneny, Domenic Chiaravalle, Floyd Marshall and Martwest Racing Stable.

The only SBOA Stakes Final remaining to be raced is the $122,600 event for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings. That event will be part of this Saturday’s (May 28) card.

Twin B Archie On Top In Super Final

Launching from the pocket at the bottom of the turn, Twin B Archie charged past 1-5 favourite Duly Resolved to take the $225,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final for two -year-old trotting colts and geldings going away on Saturday (Oct. 16) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Driver James MacDonald motored Twin B Archie to the point by a :28.4 first quarter and pocketed early leader Mr Fritter. Duly Resolved then floated out of fourth into the backside and ranged towards the tempo-setter before clearing the top approaching a :57.4 half. He continued uncontested into the final turn as Kipper Whipr Snipr recouped ground first over, looming closer to the top at three-quarters in 1:26.3.

Though with Kipper Whipr Snipr looming first over, Twin B Archie had a clear opening to pop out of the pocket coming to head stretch. With clear racetrack ahead, the Archangel gelding drew alongside Duly Resolved and promptly scurried clear to win by a widening margin in 1:55.3. Kipper Whipr Snipr closed to take third and Mr Fritter finished fourth.

“I thought if I was going to beat [Duly Resolved], his back would probably be the best way to do it because he’s such a good horse,” MacDonald said after the race. “I mean, everyone saw him just about win the Mohawk Million. He’s a great horse and my horse got the better of him tonight. Hopefully they’ll battle it out again next year.

“I was glad he got out early, not getting locked in,” trainer Scott McEneny said after the race. “He gets a little excited when he’s in a hole. And James can shut his wind off kind of easy, so I was glad he kind of got him out and got him going. He had a really good week – he was sick about a month ago, and he was really good at Flamboro two weeks ago. He was just as good tonight. He’s like a big kid with ADD, this guy.

You’ve got to keep on your toes. My daughter’s done a great job with this horse; she loves him, and she works hard on him. She deserves all the credit on this horse.

“I remembered the first time I qualified him – Scott told me ‘I really think there’s a lot in there. I just haven’t been able to get any of it out of him training,’” MacDonald also said. “I think he even said he’ll be a better aged horse. It took him a couple of qualifiers. Just as the year got on, he got stronger and stronger and stronger. At Flamboro, you got a shot at the real horse – he showed up, he was able to cut it and he just blew them away [in a] track record. That’s just the kind of horse he is and I’m really proud of him.”

The victory marked three Super Final victories on the card for James MacDonald, who nabbed his first Super Final victory in 2020 when Dashing Muscle took the championship for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings.

“I looked at the program, and you say ‘Geez, I’ve got a good lineup tonight,’” MacDonald said of his driving assignments. “You need the horses to show up, you need the trips to work out, sometimes they make breaks behind the gate, people make breaks in front of you. It takes a lot to have a night like this to go right. I’ve been really fortunate; everything’s gone right. Hopefully it’s not done and I can get another one.

Co-owned by McEneny with Domenic Chiaravalle, Floyd Marshall and Martwest Racing Stable, Twin B Archie won his fourth race from 10 starts, pushing his earnings to $285,016. He paid $9.60 to win.

Twin B Archie Trots To Track Record

Flamboro Downs fans were treated to Gold Series action for both the two-year-old trotting colts and pacing colts on Sunday (Oct. 3) and, in spite of thick fog and heavy rain, the track records for both divisions had been rewritten by the night’s end.

Twin B Archie and driver James MacDonald kicked off the speed show in the first $99,000 two-year-old trotting colt contest, taking command before the half and powering home a 4-1/2-length winner in a track-record 1:57.1. Early leader Luca Hanover finished second and Drinks At Home trotted into third. The mile lowered the 1:57.4 record set by Daylon Magician in 2010.

“He’d never been on a half, but I didn’t think he’d have a problem and neither did James (MacDonald),” said trainer Scott McEneny. “I actually got James to go last trip with him today so he knew what he was like, and he said he was perfect.”

The Puslinch, Ont. resident shares ownership of Twin B Archie with Domenic Chiaravalle of Hamilton, Ont., Floyd Marshall of Jarvis, Ont., and Martwest Racing Stable of Mississauga, Ont. The partners have celebrated two Gold Series wins and a Champlain Stakes win with the Archangel gelding this summer, and McEneny hopes he can finish off the season with a strong effort in the October 16 Super Final.

“Duly Resolved is going to be tough, and there’s still a lot of tough trotting colts in there, especially when they’re on the bigger track. We’ll see what happens,” said the trainer. “If we could get a good piece of the final it would be nice, and hopefully he can come back and be a nice three-year-old.”

The Francis Dumouchel trained Twin B Sunkissed showed plenty of fight to win Saturday’s $169,550 Simcoe Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Driver Yannick Gingras moved Twin B Sunkissed from third to first in the second-quarter and never surrendered the lead to win by three-quarters of a length over Voelz Delight in a career-best 1:51.1. Good Night Moon was third, while Paulas Bet Hanover was fourth.

“Voelz [Delight] is a really nice filly, but it was never in doubt,” said Gingras. “I popped the plugs half way down the stretch, but I was really confident.

“[Francis Dumouchel] told me she had problems early in the season tying up and allergies, but he thought he had it figured out now and that Sylvain [Filion] really hadn’t asked her for too miuch her last two starts and she won in hand.”

Twin B Sunkissed has now won three races in a row to improve her 2021 record to three wins and $113,956 earned. The daughter of Sunshine Beach sports career numbers of four wins and $240,068 earned for owners Dumouchel, Ecurie CSL and 9174 7998 Quebec Inc.

A $2 win ticket on Twin B Sunkissed returned $5.30.

Twin B Archie wins the Champlain Stakes at Woodbine Mohawk

The Champlain Stakes for two-year-old trotters kicked off “Grand Circuit Month” at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday evening.

Twin B Archie powered up in the stretch after a second-over trip to win the $63,306 second division in a strong 1:54.3. James MacDonald guided the Scott McEneny trainee to the victory.

After getting away fifth, Twin B Archie was able to secure the cover of first-over attacker Pretender going into the final turn. Pretender would overtake the lead at the top of the stretch from Drinks At Home, but interfered with that rival coming off the turn.

Twin B Archie and Pretender squared off down the lane, with the McEneny student prevailing by three-quarters of a length. Despite a strong effort, Pretender was disqualified and placed from second to seventh for interference. Devereux Seelster and Mercutio were vaulted up into the top-three.

A gelded son of Archangel, Twin B Archie now has two wins and has never missed the top-two in five starts. The $52,000 Standardbred Horse Sale yearling purchase will look to ride the momentum from Thursday through the remainder of Woodbine Mohawk Park’s Grand Circuit schedule.

“I feel really good and hopefully we’re going into next really good for the William Wellwood,” said McEneny, who pointed out that Twin B Archie didn’t show Grand Circuit talent in the early stages of training. “He’s always been very lazy, he was tough to get trained down until I started getting him behind the gate and then he just got better and better. He’s got his quirks, you have to watch him because if he gets scared of something he’ll take off.”

Twin B Archie has now earned $95,064 for owners McEneny, Domenic Chiaravalle, Floyd Marshall and Martwest Racing Stable. He paid $5 to win.

Twin B Archie Throttles Gold Foes

Twin B Archie made an impressive debut in the Gold Series at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday, July 29, clocking a 1:55.3 victory in the first of three $70,533 divisions for the two-year-old trotting colts and geldings.

From Post 1, driver James MacDonald settled the fan favourite in fourth as Drinks At Home clocked a :28.1 opening quarter. Following Red Overbach past Renegade Gypsy and Drinks At Home, MacDonald allowed that colt a brief moment on the lead before Twin B Archie took command heading for the :57.1 half. Untroubled on the lead through the 1:26.3 three-quarters, Twin B Archie opened up a seven and one-half length margin on his peers down the stretch to secure his first lifetime win after runner-up efforts in the Grassroots and Millard Farms Series. Drinks At Home finished second and Red Overbach was third.

“I was a little worried when he moved him to the front because he’s never been any good training on the front, so I was kind of impressed with him today,” said trainer Scott McEneny. “He looks like he could be hopefully a contender here for the year if we can keep him sound and keep him sane.”

The Puslinch resident shares ownership of Twin B Archie with Domenic Chiaravalle of Hamilton, Floyd Marshall of Jarvis and Martwest Racing Stable of Mississauga, ON. The partners offered up $52,000 for the Archangel gelding at last fall’s Black Book Yearling Sale and he has been a bit of a project since Day 1.

“He’s a big dummy. They had problems when they brought him in before they sold him, that’s why he was gelded before he even went through the sale. He just gets scared and does stupid things,” said McEneny. “Walking to the paddock one day in the snow he heard somebody kicking the walker and he darted sideways and dragged me for like 20 feet on the ground.

“He’s come a long way. I always thought he had the ability, he just never kind of showed it, he was always lazy, but I figured as soon as he got behind the gate he’d wake up,” the trainer added. “He’s just done everything that I thought he would do.”

The second division saw Esplosione earn his second straight Gold Series win with an off-the-pace effort for driver Trevor Henry. Also starting from Post 1, the Kadabra gelding watched from fourth as fan favourite Luca Hanover reeled off a :27.4 quarter, :58.1 half and 1:28.1 three-quarters. When Henry opened the throttle in the stretch Esplosione powered away to a three and one-quarter length victory in 1:57.4. Mr Fritter finished second and Luca Hanover settled for third.

“He does it really easy, like Trevor the last two weeks he hasn’t had to pull the plugs or anything. He’s just very professional, when he comes off cover he just wants to go forward,” said trainer Meg Crone. “And he’s really smart, which helps a lot with a two-year-old trotter.”

Crone trains Esplosione for owner-breeder Melvin Hartman of Ottawa, ON and trainer Richard “Nifty” Norman’s Enzed Racing Stable Inc. of Allentown, NJ. A 1:58.2 winner in the July 8 Gold Series season opener, the gelding prepped for Thursday’s leg in a well-attended schooler at Woodbine Mohawk Park last week.

“There was no race for him so we had to end up schooling him last week and it was funny, almost every horse in his race was in his schooler because they were in the same boat,” said Crone, who may resort to the same strategy before the third Gold Series event on Aug. 19 at Woodbine Mohawk Park. “This was his fourth start and we’ll try to get one more, but we don’t want to have too many because we’ll probably try the Grand Circuit races with him.”

The last $70,534 division saw favourites Duly Resolved and driver Paul MacDonell pick up their second Gold win with a front end effort from Post 7 that saw them log fractions of :28.2, :58.1 and 1:27.4 on the way to a four and one-half length victory in 1:56. HP Maestro finished second and Century Isaiah completed the top three.

“I still get nervous, but I was impressed tonight. I mean truthfully it’s hard to get a read on him because he’s fairly laid back and so you’re saying, ‘Geez, has he got any more or not?’” said trainer John Bax. “I mean last time was 1:57 and you’re thinking, ‘Was he all out in 1:57?’ And then he goes out there in 1:56 tonight and he looks like he’s just loafing. We’re tickled.”

Bax Stable of Campbellville, Don Allensen of Wyoming, Gaelic Stable of Sharon, ON and David Hudson of Dallas, TX share ownership on the gelding, who is three for three with earnings of $93,067 in his young career.

Ontario Sires Stakes action returns to the Campbellville oval next Friday, Aug. 6 with the third Gold Series Leg for the three-year-old trotting fillies.

Pearl Snaps Sizzles At Mohawk

At this time of year it's common to see the two-year-olds dropping time from week to week as stakes season approaches. Pacing gelding Pearl Snaps wasn't the most notable performer at Woodbine Mohawk Park a week ago but his effort on Saturday certainly turned some heads.

Those watching the baby races from Mohawk on Saturday had to wait until the 14th and final dash of the card for the fireworks to begin. Doug McNair sent Pearl Snaps to the front and ahead of his six rivals in :28.3, then rebuffed a challenge for the lead from fellow second-time starter Century Inspector (Tyler Moore). After those locked horns down the backside, they opened up nearly a double-digit margin on the competition through a :56.2 half and 1:25 third station. Turning for home, Pearl Snaps maintained the advantage and then braced for another attack from the pocket-sitting Century Inspector. With plenty left in reserve, Pearl Snaps paced home in :29 to hit the wire in a sizzling 1:54 for the two-length decision.

The mile time is the second fastest in North America to date, just behind the 1:53.2 mile paced by JMs Finaltreasure at Gaitway on June 7.

A 1:59 performer from a week ago, Pearl Snaps (Fear The Dragon - Twin B Epic) is trained by Blake MacIntosh for owner Steve Heimbecker of Waterloo, Ont. After shelling out $125,000 at Harrisburg / Timonium for the yearling from the Twinbrook Farms consignment, Heimbecker might be watching his share of Ohio Sires Stakes races this season. Another Fear The Dragon yearling he obtained at Harrisburg, two-year-old pacing filly Nicole And Dime, was a 1:58.4 winner for Heimbecker and trainer-driver Aaron Byron during Friday's qualifiers.

After winning four dashes last week, Dr. Ian Moore returned and picked up three wins during this week's session. Two of those rookies -- Ron (Ian Moore; 1:56.4) and Im King Conn (Dale Spence; 1:56.4) were victorious one week ago while Shadowmoon Rising didn't let broken equipment get in the way of a sharp 1:55.3 performance with Tyler Moore aboard.

On the trotting side, stablemates Bar Brawl and Barroom Brawl Boys might be punching their tickets into the 2021 Mohawk Million. The pair of Muscle Mass geldings owned by dual ticket holder Gino Toscani of Mount Hope, Ont. were wire-to-wire winners during the Saturday session. Bar Brawl (Muscle Mass - Baileys Breeze) was the fastest trotter of the day with a 2:00.2 mile, while Barroom Brawl Boys (Muscle Mass - Bar Ballad) scored in 2:03.2

Yesterday, Nicole And Dime won her debut going behind the gate with a 1:58.4 mile on an off track for trainer Aaron Byron. The Fear The Dragon filly out of Beachy Girl sold in Harrisburg last fall as Jayport Dragonfly for $92,000. The filly was raised by Jayport Farms and sale prepped & consigned by us here at Twinbrook. Jayport will be offering her Artspeak brother on the London Virtual Yearling Sale this fall.

Pearl Snaps won his qualifier this morning at Mohawk in 1:54 for trainer Blake Macintosh. He is now the fastest charted 2 year old so far in Mohawk’s two weekends of baby racing action. The $125,000 Harrisburg purchase was formerly known as “Twin B Slayer” and is by Fear The Dragon out of Twin B Epic. Keep an eye out for his Artspeak sister at the Ontario Select Yearling Sale this September.

JS Lovethemladies, a Sportswriter colt out of Leaveumlady, also found the wire first this morning in his debut, going wire to wire in 1:58.3. The colt was bred & raised by JS Farms and sale prepped and consigned with us. You’ll find his Betting Line sister in our Harrisburg consignment this fall.

Twin B Fighter Takes Gold

Ontario’s top two-year-old pacing colts wrapped their Gold Series regular season on Sunday (Oct. 4) over a rain-soaked Flamboro Downs oval.

The first $104,800 Gold Series division saw Twin B Fighter get his first win of the season for driver Ed Hensley and trainer Ashleigh Hensley of Dundas, ON. Starting from post 4 in the six-horse field, Twin B Fighter got away third and watched No Better Joy roll through fractions of :29, :59 and 1:27.1 over a surface rated two seconds slower than normal. Heading by three-quarters, Ed Hensley tipped Twin B Fighter to the outside and the colt matched strides with No Better Joy around the last turn before pulling away to a two-and-one-quarter length victory in 1:56.3.

Candy Trader and Socrates Blue Chip were elevated to second and third when Flash Cube, who crossed the wire second, was moved back to fourth for a pylon violation. No Better Joy finished fifth and race-favourite Bulldog Hanover was a distant sixth after making an early break in stride.

“We didn’t race him in the Battle Of Waterloo just because we didn’t know if he’d get around the half the best, but he was good tonight,” said Ashleigh Hensley. “It was really exciting, because he’s an underdog and we knew he had the ability, he just had to get everything all together.”

Hensley trains Twin B Fighter for Burke Racing Stable LLC of Fredericktown, PA, Phillip Collura of Mountain Top, PA, J And T Silva – Purnel & Libby of Delray Beach, FL and W. J. Donovan of Monument Beach, MA. The Bettors Delight son, whose breeder Twinbrook Farms donated four per cent of his $140,000 yearling purchase price to the Harness The Hope fundraiser, learned his early lessons from trainer Ron Burke before shipping into the Hensley barn for his Ontario Sires Stakes campaign.

“We were really lucky to get these two-year-olds for the summer,” said Hensley. “He’s perfect, he does nothing wrong, you wouldn’t even know he’s a stud. You couldn’t really ask for a better colt.”

Take Control & Bettorbuckleup Win Semi-Finals

Take Control made it back to back stakes wins, this time winning his Grassroots Semi Final for 2y/o colts & geldings on Thursday night with a new lifetime best of 1:51.4 for Team Lagace.

Take Control is a Control The Moment gelding out of First Lady that was born & raised here at Twinbrook for breeder Dr. Dave Goodrow.

The Twinbrook raised colt, Bettorbuckleup was a winner in his Grassroots Semi Final for 3y/o pacing colts & geldings in 1:50.4 on Friday evening for Nick Gallucci and connections. The 3y/o is a Bettors Delight colt out of Farouche Hanover, bred by Jeff McFadden & Jeff Roberts.

Both colts are headed into next weeks Grassroots Final.

Twin B’s Take in Champlain Action; Twin B Eagle Victorious

It was a great night of racing for our Twin B babies taking on Grand Circuit action at Mohawk!

Twin B Eagle won the first division of the Champlain for 2 year old pacing colts & geldings, taking a new lifetime mark of 1:51.2 for trainer Tony Beaton and connections! Twin B Sunkissed got up to grab herself a nice second place finish in the fastest division of the 2 year old pacing fillies Champlain, pacing her fastest mile to date of 1:52.2 for Francis Dumouchel and connections. Bettorbuckleup Victorious in OSS Grassroots Action

Bettorbuckleup grabbed his second OSS Grassroots win in his sophomore campaign. Going off heavy favourite with James MacDonald in the bike, the 3 year old son of Bettors Delight out of Farouche Hanover got away 4th off the gate before removing to pace on to a 3 1/2 length advantage in a new lifetime best of 1:50.3.

Hot Wheelz Runner Up in Goodtimes Trot

Hot Wheelz rallied up a stellar performance to finish 2nd in the $215,000 Goodtimes Trot Final on Saturday for Stephanie & Jody Jamieson. The 3 year old son by Wheeling N Dealin out of Affair Hall was timed in 1:52.3 with a 27.3 final quarter to bank over $48,000 on the card and brought his LTE to $169,775 in 12 lifetime starts.

Twin B Sunkissed & Dumouchel Win Gold

Twin B Sunkissed notched her maiden breaking win in an OSS Gold event on Friday evening for trainer Francis Dumouchel and connections. The 2 year old Sunshine Beach filly worked out a perfect 2 hole trip to win the fastest division in 1:54.3 with driver Yannick Gingras in the bike, getting trainer Francis Dumouchel his first stakes training win!

I’d never sat behind her, and I was really happy,” said Gingras, who was making his first appearance in the Sunshine Beach daughter’s race bike. “The trip worked out obviously, but I think she performed really good. Twin B Hugs Quickest In Prospect

Odds-on favourite Twin B Hugs went wire to wire to win the faster of two $7,300 divisions of the Prospect Series Three-Year-Old Filly Trot fourth preliminary with a 2:01 victory on Saturday (Aug. 29) at Georgian Downs.

Driver Travis Henry hurried Twin B Hugs from post 7 to the lead while pylon-starter Bellona secured the pocket to a :30 first quarter. Twin B Hugs raced under minimal pressure through middle fractions of 1:01 and 1:30.4 as Annual Royalty attempted to gain ground first over tracked by Stonebridge Sydney. Through the stretch Twin B Hugs strolled to a two-and-a-quarter length win chased by Stonebridge Sydney in second, with Bellona faltering to third.

Co-owned by trainer Francis Dumouchel with Ecurie CSL and 9174 7998 Quebec Inc., Twin B Hugs won her second race from 18 starts, earning $18,457. The Muscle Mass filly returned $3.00 to win.

The Kadabra filly Kads Kiss kicked out of the pocket to pull a 12-1 upset in the other Prospect division, stopping the clock in 2:01.2.

St Helens protected position at the pylons to take the lead to a :29.3 first quarter with Kads Kiss ducking into second. Race-favourite Ella sat fourth to a 1:00.2 half before angling first over towards the backstretch. St Helens maintained control as Ella applied pressure to three-quarters in 1:30.3 and moving to the top of the stretch. But as the passing lane opened, Kads Kiss darted around competition and edged a half length in front of St Helens to the finish with Ella another length back in third.

Returning $27.40 to win, Kads Kiss won her first race from eight starts this season and his second from 16 overall, earning $17,553 for trainer-driver Bruce Richardson and co-owners Joseph Coffey and Morley Bosomworth.

Twin B Edge Wins his 2nd PA Stallion Series

Twin B Edge was sent out for trainer Casie Coleman Herlihy on Saturday afternoon at The Meadows, bringing home his 2nd PA Stallion Series victory this season. Leaving from post 7, the 2 year old Betting Line colt out of Twin B Exquisite went wire to wire in 28.1, 57.2, 1:25.1, 1:52.4.

Papi Rob Hanover headed home to Hanover Shoe Farms!!

It is with great pride and excitement that Hanover Shoe Farms announces that superstar pacer Papi Rob Hanover will be returning to the farm he was foaled and raised at to begin stallion duties in 2021.

Papi Rob Hanover took a record of p,2,1:50f at two while earning $754,774. He won the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Final, his Breeders Crown elimination, the Matron and Governor’s Cup. He crossed the wire first in the final of the Breeders Crown, but was subsequently placed second. He was second in both his elimination and final of the Metro Pace (pacing both last quarters in less than 27 seconds) for a freshman slate of 12 starts with six wins, four seconds and two thirds.

In an abbreviated sophomore campaign, Papi Rob Hanover started four times. He was third in the Meadowlands Pace elimination from Post 10 with a :26.1 last quarter and second in the final, beaten a neck in 1:47.2 from Post 9. 'Papi' culminated his career with an electrifying world record performance in his Adios elimination, winning by 10 and a half lengths in 1:47.1 with a :26.3 last quarter over the 5/8 mile oval.

Papi Rob Hanover is from the second to last full crop of the legendary Somebeachsomewhere, who has already displayed his ability to sire great stallions, as evidenced by the dominance of his son Captaintreacherous. Papi Rob Hanover’s maternal pedigree is one of the best the business has. He is the second foal of the very fast Panera Hanover p,4,1:51.2f, she a sister to JK Panache P,1:47.3 ($662,789) and Philly Hanover P,3,1:49.2f ($334,241). Papi Rob Hanover’s grandam is the prolific Panned Out, she the dam of the winners of over two million dollars.

“'Papi Rob' was a great looking and extremely smart yearling. He reminded me most of his father of any 'Beach' colt we have raised," says Dr. Bridgette Jablonsky. "He’s very correct and powerful and has a presence about him that signifies greatness. His win in the Adios elimination was as scintillating a performance as I have ever seen. When he came flying around that last turn I had visions of Somebeachsomewhere. Combine all of that with his pedigree and I have little doubt that Papi Rob will be Beach’s next great siring son."

Owner David McDuffee who purchased Papi Rob Hanover from the 2018 Standardbred Horse Sale for $130,000 says, “I have been inundated with interest in Papi Rob from some of the largest breeding farms in the business. It’s very exciting to me that he is going back home and I am very confident that Hanover will give him every opportunity to become the great stallion that I know he is destined to become. I believe that the terms of syndication are very appealing, he is priced fairly with additional incentives, so that we can put together a great syndicate to increase his level of success even more.”

Brett Pelling, trainer of such notables as Rocknroll Hanover and The Panderosa, developed and trained Papi Rob Hanover for the duration of his career. “Papi Rob is the most perfect horse I have been fortunate enough to train. Standardbred Horse Sale will be at new location

The Standardbred Horse Sales Company has advised its consignors that while it plans to hold its annual yearling and mixed auctions this November, they will not take place at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.

In an email, Paul F. "Pete" Spears, president and CEO of Standardbred Horse Sales Company, said the sales company was informed by Farm Show Complex officials that the facility will be unavailable for the annual November sale.

"This outcome is disappointing, as we learned that our COVID-19 compliance protocol was well received by the reviewers," said Spears. "Standardbred has already been in the process of evaluating multiple alternate venues, and will be reaching out to several more in the near future. We are committed to doing everything we can to hold a live auction for our consignors and customers while respecting COVID-19 restrictions and public health considerations."

Standardbred is also working with ProxiBid.com to provide comprehensive online bidding services for the 2020 sale and plans to expand telephone bidding opportunities for customers who are unable to attend the sale in person.

"We will do everything possible to make purchases from remote locations easy and user-friendly," added Spears.
